I am not sure why you keep asking me that. I was responding to your post (3009) where you seemed to be crowing about how the decision to not expand was based (partially at least) on fears of academic dilution. I find it deeply ironic that a Utah fan would be gloating about that. Did I misunderstand you?Originally posted by UtahDan View PostWhat does that have to do with why Utah got admitted?"There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Enjoy your wait.
No need to wade through 3,000 posts. This one pretty much nails it.
But, if you must know, in terms of academic greatness and reputation for the P12, B12, it goes something like this.
Stanford
(then a big drop)
Cal, UCLA
(another less noticiable drop)
A huge messy dogpile of everyone else, including Utah and BYU. Washington & Texas enjoy the top of the dogpile. Tech is getting crushed at the bottom of it, while the journalism program at Mizzou is the exception to all this.
Honestly, after Stanford, and perhaps Cal & UCLA....who cares?

Yes. I have heard over and over that academics had nothing to do with why Utah was admitted, that Utah's academics are poor, etc.. That was a fresh statement that academic reputation is a driving force is what that conference does and who it admits. The quote I posted wasn't saying that was the reason those school are not being considered. I didn't mean to imply.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI am not sure why you keep asking me that. I don't know whether that is true or not. It seems logical. But assuming it's true I imagine a lot of schools would have gladly paid CU's way in order to make that deal happen. But that was part of the business deal, not the reason Utah was picked.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostWe established yesterday that Utah was admitted because it paid for Colorado's airfare. At least that is what I was told here by several Ute fans.

Chris Dufresne's kind of tongue-in-cheek look at what conference realignments are doing to traditional rivalries. Holy War mentioned:

It looks like Utah sold its soul when it joined the godless Pac-12.

LOL.I'm aware that the Pac-12 doesn't care about community standards or Sundays or General Conference weekend or Yom Kippur and Ramadan, for that matter."More crazy people to Provo go than to any other town in the state."
