  • Fair enough... Its still far flung. Please note that the post referenced was responding to this quote from you:

I am speculating a bit, but if you don't think other schools aren't watching BYU's independence experiment with interest you're wrong. And if you don't think BYU has changed the landscape of college football before, you're wrong again.
For the record I don't think Texas going indy is inevitable. I still think its far flung. Could it happen? Sure. Are the odds hi? Yes.

If you are so sure Texas is going Indy why do you want BYU in the B12? The idea of playing Baylor, Kansas, KSU, Missouri and Iowa State every year that exciting?

I don't if they go indy and the other sports go elsewhere like the Pac 10 like MRD hopes. If they stay in the Big 12 though I'd much rather BYU's other sports be there than the WCC.

hopes?? Mine $.02 was just far flung disaster planning.

Well I'll be pretty shocked if any of those scenarios happen in the next 5 years.

I think in 5 years we could all be pretty shocked at what has happened in college football.

Those of us that have been true and faithful followers of CUF will not be shocked by Utah's unprecedented 5 straight BCS championships.

It's not a bad hope. I don't know how they'd get around the Longhorn network though. Scott seems pretty adamant about not letting them have it and that seems to be the deal breaker for Texas not joining last summer. I really doubt Hawaii would ever be invited. That seems more far flung than Texas' Olympic sports joining the P10.

Since we are in the zone of "hey anything can happen" Hawaii in football doesn't seem that far flung. There are some definite benefits to having hawaii football in your conference. Extra home games for 4 conference teams each year is nice. Adding Hawaii a state that is heavily recruited by your conference isn't bad either. Not to mention its a vacation destination. Plus they would come cheaply so you aren't splitting a lot.

As for Texas non football going PAC-10 the best comparison is Notre Dame. Seems to have worked out alright for them. As for the Longhorn Network question just give them broadcast rights on all home games as their Revenue share.

IMHO the biggest far flung idea in my above far flung scenario is getting A&M, OK and Mizzou to the Pac-12.

Explain this. Are you suggesting that they'd get a much smaller portion of PAC-Whatever revenue?

I doubt that. I also doubt that anyone other than USC or UCLA would want to see that happen. It would open Pandora's Box. You'd be taking the first step towards an unequal revenue split.

Well what is the mwc giving them now for just FB only? It can't be much and the Pac-12 could give them a little more and still not have them be as close as the rest of the conference. Hawaii is already taking less of share to be in the MWC for FB only.

From the mwc state of the conference:

                              3. Hawaii only gets a partial share of TV revenue and each team getting around 1.4 to 1.5 million. Not sure if that will be this year or when the new members are added. Have a delay on the stream so I'll have to rewatch when video is posted.

As far as unequal revenue split it would be a special case (team is only in for FB) and it would be in the favor of everyone else in the conference.

                              • With A&M trying to shake up the B12, now might be the time for Larry Scott to invite Oklahoma, Okie State, Kansas and Texas Tech and form the Pac 16.
