Spoken like a true fan. I feel the same way; however, I don't think that's the way BYU admin and BoT operate. I think MBN is right with his take: "no doubt BYU will push for inclusion against its better interests and despite how badly those bastards treat the Lord's University"

This is probably a stupid comment but we have the Big 12 and the BIG 10. The BiG or Big 10 just added 2, so they are now BIG 12. So how do we distinguish?
Freaking Utah though. Sucks that those saying BYU will attempt to be inclusive are right. But at least make them beg on their knees or something.

Why would it be in BYU's interest to invite Utah? Walk me through the logic.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View Post

The most likely scenario when the Pac 10 implodes is the Big 12 grabs Utah as one of the most attractive leftover football programs without BYU advocating. But if it comes to Utah being potentially relegated back to the MWC, you are correct that it is not in BYU's interest to advocate for Utah. But I also have no doubt that BYU would advocate for Utah in that scenario despite them generally being huge turds and wishing BYU athletics to die. This is partly because our boomers and Gen Xers don't bear the scars of being one of the worst programs in the country while our rival revolutionized the game and was the biggest CFB outsider for decades and partly because we are just good people who care more about relationships than money. You might say when everything is distilled down our religion is actually kindness.Originally posted by Moliere View PostBYU should not push for Utah to be included in any conference. Why spend that goodwill on them? Let the chips fall where they may. If the Big12 snatches up some PAC schools I’m sure Utah is near the top of that list, but there’s no reason to advocate for them.
In fact, BYU’s best interest is to push to have them left out. BYU would then control the growing SLC market in terms of power football conferences, which would help in recruiting.

Leaving aside the fact that Utah made a decision that was in their best interest in 2010, that they actively tried to destroy BYU's reputation to avoid inclusion in subsequent rounds of expansion to ensure market share, and the nonstop rubbing it in our faces by their fan base... leaving all of that out of the equation, the Big-XII goes after the best brands that are available that will help the conference. This is strictly a business decision and nothing more. Right now that is OU, UW, ASU, and Arizona. We also need to see if the ACC gets blown up and maybe the conference gets a chance at VaTech, Pitt, Miami, or NC State. These brands are all better than Colorado and Utah. If it gets to a point where all the other options aren't available, we look at them. Long term conference viability is the most important thing now.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

I'll take a stab at it. Because Utah in the Big 12 would make the conference stronger and more secure. And allow BYU-Utah to be part of an annual schedule. With OU and Texas soon gone, the Big 12 needs all the help it can get. But this is more of an argument for the interests of the Big 12 which indirectly benefit BYU. There is also the consideration of the two schools shared history within the WAC and MWC conferences.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

On the flipside, UofU left BYU in the dust when it joined the PAC-12 so I see little reason for BYU to offer a helping hand. I would expect Kansas to have a similar reaction if Nebraska were ever booted from the B1G and asked to re-join the Big 12 even though Nebraska, in their diminished state, would strengthen the conference. The two schools had a long history in the Big8 and Big12 and at one time had the longest on-going annual "rivalry" game but that mattered little when Nebraska bolted for the B1G.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

My dream scenario would be the Big12 picking up Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Colorado. That won’t happen but it would be awesome.Originally posted by USUC View Post

The realistic scenario is everyone stays as is except the PAC picking up Sand Diego state and Boise state. They’d be on par with the Big12 at that point
I have to admit my favorite part of all of this is the freaking out of every fan of the schools that are now in limbo. I’ve seen endless posts of fans saying they are done with college football because of all of this. Welcome to our world for the past two decades. College football has never had parity and the little guys have always scrapped. Part of that is what makes it fun and maddening at the same time. BYU and Utah will never compete for a national title and the sooner the Utes realize that and just enjoy the ride the more fun it is to be a fan."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

You are right though, when everyone accepts t that this game is as slanted as a sheer cliff the easier it is to enjoy. Kinda like Vegas.

yes, Byu should vote to include the UofU but they should only get half money for the first 25 years or so.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View Post
