This is all about Texas. Where do you want to get your information from on Texas, the great state of missoura? Kansas?Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostAnd you believe anything that comes out of the mouth or is quoted from Dan Beebe? Chip Brown is a mouthpice of Dodds - he's a UT homer. The world is bigger then Texas.

Are you sure you have time to participate here with all the on site updates from E3?
Besides, SC campus will be last to know. Under Paperback Writers scenario, you need to head over to UC Irvine to find out what is going on with the Trojans.Last edited by Coach McGuirk; 06-09-2011, 12:49 PM.

Yes. Not only that, but Utah wouldn't have to say they wouldn't play them, that is a given. Rose Bowl could very well just sign on to have USC every year. They would take their other sports to the WCC, perfect fit.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostOk lets say USC decides to go indy in football. The PAC-12 says ok None of our schools will play you in any sport. USC go Big West in Basketball.
Is USC going to get 25+ million a year from a new USC network and ESPN?

Conference realignment was a bit bigger than Texas. Until next month, there are 7 states in the Big 12. Many had their own views of Texas motives and understood Chip Brown was printing from his Texas sources (Dodds & Co.). My sources have close ties to Nebraska and A&M. And thats why the Cornhuskers are no longer in the Big 12. Because the Big 12 had become "all about Texas".Originally posted by Coach McGuirk View PostThis is all about Texas. And most living in Texas (as I do) understand that A&M and UT will have difficulty playing in different conferences without the OK of the Texas legislature. That's why I don't believe that the PAC-16 "almost happened" and quickly determined the Big 12 would survive because it was really the only option for UT. Texas A&M was never on-board with the PAC-16, UT will never play in the SEC, Tech isn't welcome in the Big Ten. As I stated earlier, I doubt UT could even go independent unless A&M and Tech land in BCS conferences. The only real option was to keep UT, A&M, and Tech together and hope OU keeps their wagon hitched to UT which also keeps tag-along OK St. Baylor is just happy not to be playing in Conf-USA. The remaining North division teams will leave the Big 12 in a heartbeat if the Big Ten opens it's doors again. But the Big Ten most likely won't so those schools will continue to follow Missouri's lead: "We weren't really interested in the Big Ten, we're a happy, committed member of the Big 12 - How 'bout them Longhorns!".“Not the victory but the action. Big 12 was all about Texas the day it was formed. Nebraska was gone as soon as they had an opening in another conference.
I think it comes down to me believing UT had more options than you think. Other than that, I am just glad someone on this board wants to talk football.

Also gald to have someone else to talk football. Perhaps I over state the power of the Texas legislature and their ability to keep UT, A&M, and Tech together. That maybe due in part to Texas politics getting Baylor into the Big 12 rather than TCU or Houston. But I do see those 3 schools being bundled together for better or worse.Originally posted by Coach McGuirk View PostBig 12 was all about Texas the day it was formed. As far as the Big 12 being all about Texas - it depends on ones viewpoint. For those schools and fans of the Big 8, the Big 12 was all about the Big 8 (notably OU, Nebraska, Colorado, some years Missouri, and an improving KSU) + Texas (notably UT and A&M) - the failed SWC was "all about Texas". On the other hand, for Texas - the Big 12 was a new conference open for business.
For example, someone from Lincoln would say "Texas is fortunate to have the Big 8 extend a welcoming hand to save it from the trainwreck that has become the SWC - welcome to the Big 8 err... Big 12". Someone from Austin would say "Nebraska and the Big 8 is fortunate that Texas came along to make the Big 12 somewhat comparable to the SEC and Big Ten - you're lucky to have the Longhorns in this new conference".
Oklahoma is the school that swung the balance. Nebraska thought OU would side with it without understanding that OU's success is tied to Texas recruiting and the Red River Rivalry. Nebraska thought OU was it's rival when OU's rival really was Texas.
But Nebraska was in no hurry to leave the Big 12 and their differences with Texas could have been worked out. Nebraska knew Colorado was gone to the PAC-10 as soon as an invite was offered. But they also knew BYU was available and would be an upgrade. Nebraska really didn't get worried until the Big Ten went public with expansion and they realized Notre Dame was firm in staying independent and Missouri started lobbying publicly for Big Ten inclusion. With Colorado and Missouri gone, Nebraska began to really worry since their fate would be in the hands of Texas. Until they realized they were more attractive to the Big Ten then Missouri and the Big Ten would be a more stable and lucrative conference.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”
