There was some increase chatter about the PAC-12 expanding further along with Texas going independent. According to Wilner there are a couple of scenarios but it is very unlikely it will happen.
My $.02 If its inevitable that Texas is going indy wouldn't a good option for the conference to invite A&M, Oklahoma and Mizzou as fulltime members and then have Hawaii as football only and Texas as everything but football?
1. Hawaii gets you another top 50 market, Its in the pacific rim (you want to expand your network there anyway), and an extra football game for 4 conference mates. Not to mention recruiting and a nice place for your fans to travel to. Additionally, you could probably get them at 4-5 million a year and they would be really happy. Moreover, its the only other western team that could possibly make sense.
2. A&M, OK & Mizzou give you texas Oklahoma and Mizzouri. They are good academic schools and their sports are going to be a bonus. Not to mention texas recruiting opens up a little more.
3. Texas gets to go Indy in Football (what they really want) and play in a good conference for other sports. Pay them at a discount for the non football possibly even nothing saying every home game they have is their broadcast rights. Maybe even offer them some late season football games for their scheduling."Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point. FWIW I discussed this last night with a friend inside the Oregon AD, he said that they all knew Scott wanted to pursue expansion from his interview(s) to be hired as commish. That there is not a strong sense from Oregon's perspective that expansion to 16 teams will be considered in the next 3-4 years unless everyone else does it.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostThere was some increase chatter about the PAC-12 expanding further along with Texas going independent. From what he said was discussed with other athletic dept people at the P12 media day there is not a lot of concern about Texas going Indy either. His perspective was that most in the P12 think that if Texas does go Indy they won't be handed access to the BCS. That by giving away access to the BCS, as that would unleash a chain reaction making the BCS itself powerless.

I remember being laughed at for believing Texas was going indy. I think you even called this idea "far flung."Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostThere was some increase chatter about the PAC-12 expanding further along with Texas going independent.
