The benefit of one those schools going indy is not enough to do it. byu greatly increased their money in football (probably X6) and probably stayed the same in other sports. There are other views besides those of Chip Brown and Delous Dodds. You make it seem that Texas - a state sponsered school - is free to do whatever it wants at the expense of other major state sponsored schools (A&M and Tech) in Texas. Texas politics will assure that UT and A&M will play in the same conference along with Tech. For example, UT had conversations with the Big Ten but had a "Tech problem". The Big Ten would have accepted UT and A&M but not Tech and UT couldn't move forward without them. There are similar political issues that keep OU chained to OK St. And it will probably be a reason why UT will not be able to go independent (unless A&M and Tech have spots in the SEC which UT does not want for recruiting reasons). If UT threatens to go independent, I wonder it A&M will threaten to never play them again (similar to the scenerio you describe with A&M joining the SEC).Originally posted by Coach McGuirk View Post
