I am with you on this. Once I heard that the PAC-10 had offered Colorado, I knew that the Utes were most likely going to be in the PAC-XX when all was said and done, but I don't think the book on Scott is done being written yet. The move for the B12 South was a risky, but potentially lucrative option. Given how unlikely it was to happen, I doubt he made that move without a solid plan B.

People are knocking the CU + Utah option, but a quick Google provided me with this:

    http://blogs.mercurynews.com/college...fallen-behind/

    Football championship game: $14.5 million.

(You can see why Pac-10 commish Larry Scott is looking into a title game of his own.)
A championship game adds $1M per school - if it was divided equally, which I doubt it will be. I would hazard to guess that USC wouldn't have been on board with this plan unless the championship game participants took home a larger share.

Maybe see how BYU sells out the Royal in Austin and does on the field next year before giving them an invite. (So BYU fans plan to buy your Texas vs. BYU tickets the minute they go on sale and make travel arrangements to Austin now. I'll hitch up the smoker and meet you there.)
I wonder how tough it will be to get tickets.

Why on earth would they be in a rush to invite Utah at this point? Utah isn't going anywhere.

Sorry Utes, you're not getting the invite, at least this year. There's a sour taste to this whole thing and a midmajor is not much of a consolation prize. They may warm back up to the idea, but it'll take a while.

THERE IS NO ONE ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH...

Anyone hear that deafening silence from the Emerald City? Perhaps the sun has gone behind a cloud?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Hey guys, I enjoy a good wager so I am willing to be the middle man in this one. You can both paypal me the $500 and I will distribute accordingly when the time comes. I will hold the funds in the CUF account.

I am hoping BYU's allotment will sell out in the first 5 minutes. I will be buying a big lot, if I can, and then most likely trading up to better seats on stubhub.

                • I guess Texas Tech is holding out from agreeing to the new Big-12. They of course will but I wonder why they are being a bit stubborn here.

You raise an interesting point, Duderino. What is to become of CUF now that the rivalry might come to an end? Will the lawers on both sides of the CUF aisle be drawn into formal legal debate? Will the kingdom you helped create be torn assunder by greed and moral decay? Will you be forced into suffering the ultimate form of degradation by creating a non-sports board monstrocity replete with Jefe-esque rules for violators of CUF's new LAW OF POSTING RULE #1: NO SPORTS!? I for one hope not which is why I should hold onto the money.

Utah Would Bring a Storied Basketball Program to Pac-10

Will someone please send him a nasty note?

I am game. I need a new set of golf clubs and ER's $500 would be a great start.

                            • There is reason for hope among BYU fans and worry among Ute fans. The PAC might look at the Big 12 getting a richer TV contract and possibly a championship game with only 10 teams and wonder why they are adding programs. So take heart, myboynoah! This may yet fall apart. As always, I will celebrate when the ink is dry on the contract. (Well, maybe when the invitation is announced.)

I was wondering about Tech... They are wondering why the A&M basterds are being treated like the prodigal son. I would have told A&M they could only get the tier 1 package if they could prove they had a valid SEC deal on the table.
