Ha. That is just about the only way that you could possibly twist that summary.

To answer your question, I would rather catch a 900-lb bluefin tuna than a few steelheads.

I agree that USC/Stanford would have been the smarter move.

And dang it, I don't live in Alpine! I live in Provo. I don't make welder money.

What fish could I catch that would weight 1,984 pounds?

Yes, this is pretty much a given. NBC isn’t going to give ND more money on their new contract. In fact, people in the know are speculating that ND will be getting less. Stanford is the natural partner to come with them. Rivals and lots of ND fans in the Bay Area.

When the music stops Cal and Utah could be left without chairs. The smart thing for Utah to do sooner rather than later is start negotiating Whitt’s exit. They are not going to be able to afford him and there will be a lot of other schools that will. These BYU trained coaches get are worth the money.

It’s pretty simple… why would the B1G have to choose when they know you are going to have both? Besides USC and UCLA are currently in a B1G island by themselves and may be there for a few years until ND figures out NBC is not giving them more money and they make their move to the B1G with Stanford, Oregon, and UW. Until then USC needs a travel partner and UCLA is prefect.

I wonder who this mystery person could be. I also wonder if that same person often referred to UCLA as fUCLA. I wonder who objective this person, as a life-long USC fan, could be regarding UCLA's value to the Big 10.

                  • this has to help the B12 and maybe P12 doesn’t it? ESPN needs content to fill up their channels. And as exciting at the Excel championship was, I’m assuming they prefer CFB

The chatter in B12 country is that is good for the B12...

More money to spend on the B12.

                      • Maybe this is why the B1G doesn't care about ESPN pulling out....

Apple in talks to acquire streaming rights for Big Ten athletics, report says

Apple is once again said to be involved in negotiations for the streaming rights to Big Ten athletic events including football and basketball. A new report from The Athletic indicates that both Apple and Amazon are involved in the negotiations.

The Big Ten is one of the most prominent conferences in the United States for college athletics. In fact, the Big Ten got a major boost earlier this summer with the addition of USC and UCLA, turning it into a potential “super conference.”

As we’ve seen throughout the coverage of Apple’s interest in obtaining NFL Sunday Ticket streaming rights, the world of sports licensing and media rights is incredibly complex. As it stands right now, Fox has locked up a portion of the Big Ten broadcast rights.

But no mention of the PAC 12-2? I thought they were banking on a streaming partner to give them the big money.

Folks on CB are convinced that this means that ESPN is going to low-ball the P12, due to no other media platform bidding against them for P12 content. And ESPN will be the P12's only option, so the conference is going to collapse. They point to ESPN not signing the P12 during whatever negotiation window there was that closed a week or two ago as evidence that ESPN is planning to low-ball.

I tend to think that all this means is that ESPN will want content still and will end up paying the P12 for it.

It wouldn't surprise me if ESPN was waiting to negotiate with the P12 until they knew what was happening with the B1G because then they'd have a better idea of what money they can offer the P12. I don't think anyone would argue that the B1G isn't the bigger priority, and making the P12 wait is worth it if you may get the B1G.

But now ESPN knows they don't have the B1G. They knew they need content. I think the P12 leftovers have been humbled just enough to agree to playing as many late games as ESPN wants them to - but filling that late schedule will come with a price tag. I don't see the P12 as being in as weak a negotiating position as a lot of the cougar fans on CB - but I guess we'll see how all this turns out soon enough.

This is a reasonable take. I wonder how long of a deal they would work out.

                            • I don't see much of a hole that needs to be filled. Didn't the SEC already fill that hole? And they also have the ACC to fill the East coast time, hence they were fine passing on the B1G. I don't see why passing on the B1G changes much with the PAC.

                              • At this point I don't care what happens to the Pac-10 as long as the Big-XII deal is comparable and there are assurances for the post season. It was fun reveling in the pain and arrogance of the Pac-12, but the unnecessary prestige bestowed upon them by the national media and the population centers probably ensure they survive.
