That's a favorable view of Scott, I admit, but I don't think the situation is as simple as the narrative many here are spinning. ("Scott's an idiot, he tried to corral half the Big 12, that blew up in his face and now has to settle for just CU and Utah.") For one thing, I am pretty sure the PAC10 folks knew the Big 12 gambit was just that, a high-stakes gambit.
Don't tell me there's any questoin about Utah accepting the offer.

Reaping more returns from the Larry Scott publicity stunt.

Pac-10, snubbed by Texas, sets sights on Utah

Monday's events are a blow to Scott, the ultra-aggressive commissioner who is furiously trying to do everything different from his predecessor, Tom Hansen. Scott frequently mentioned his desire to start a Pac-10 Network, but it will be more difficult to convince cable operators to televise without the lure of Texas football.

Revenue projections also will be modified. Pac-10 members were expected to earn around $20 million per year with a 16-team conference. That figure now is expected to drop to the $10 million to $15 million range.

What remains undecided is how the new league will be divided. A geographical split could see USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, California and Stanford in a Southern Division while Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, Colorado and Utah are in a Northern Division.

However, that might meet resistance in the Pacific Northwest because those schools would miss the Los Angeles television and recruiting market. Ticket sales to home games also might sag if the Southern California schools are off the menu.
Larry Scott's troubles have only just begun.
      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Proposed Pac-16 blowing up isn't all bad

The worst of it, for Scott, is that the Pac-10 still made a ridiculous move. Adding Colorado was the initial piece of the puzzle, with the bigger boys soon to follow, except ... no. Now the Pac-10 is stuck with Colorado, and maybe Utah down the road, to make it an even 12 teams. Ludicrous. Nothing but a lot of extra travel, for no reason, in tough economic times. It was enough of a stretch to give the Arizona schools a "Pacific" label, and what happens in football now - you play all 11 teams, with no room for nonconference action?

Doesn't this writer realize that NO ONE ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH IS SAYING THIS? Can't he see the sun as it shines?

Sorry Utes, you're not getting the invite, at least this year. There's a sour taste to this whole thing and a midmajor is not much of a consolation prize. They may warm back up to the idea, but it'll take a while.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

                            So is this true?

Andy Katz in this video (see link below) states that Utah is required to play Utah State every year because it is mandated by the government. I wonder if this will continue if they go into the Pac-10+2.

Also, from the same ESPN link:

A&M was trying to get interest from the SEC. There was some early interest from the school, but no formal offer from the SEC.
I knew the basterds were bluffing.

I don't see why the Pac-10+1 would be in a hurry on Utah. Doesn't Utah have until Sept 1st to inform the MWC that they are leaving? If the Pac-10+1 was smart they would take their time and do their due diligence on Utah and figure how much value they didn't gain with Colorado. Maybe they will just cut their loses and let Colorado go to the MWC if they stop and do some actual thinking about it. Of course, I don't take the current Pac-10+1 management as being all that smart.
