Like I said earlier, Scott looked the genius early and Beebe was a train wreck. But my have the roles reversed.

I also predicted Scott would come out of this with a badly damaged reputation.

When I heard Scott was going after the Big 12-2 South, I slept like a baby--like Churchill said he did after Pearl Harbor. I knew there would be Pac 10 expansion and that was all I needed to hear.

So, you're saying that Scott's reputation is damaged by adding Utah?

And you give me crap about my position on the matter.

The story I am getting is that he had persuaded the league to expand then tried to "swing for the fences." He had the presidents' permission. In the process he has gotten the expansion he initially set out to get (assuming Utah goes) and has also goosed the market for conference TV deals - on the eve of his league's renegotiation. That's a favorable view of Scott, I admit, but I don't think the situation is as simple as the narrative many here are spinning. ("Scott's an idiot, he tried to corral half the Big 12, that blew up in his face and now has to settle for just CU and Utah.") For one thing, I am pretty sure the PAC10 folks knew the Big 12 gambit was just that, a high-stakes gambit.

I agree with this. I don't think they ever thought it had more than a very slim chance of succeeding. Basically, it was a big publicity stunt--like Paul McCartney being terminally ill (hence all these leaks). Probably both organizations wound up richer for it. I've said before that even had the unlikely happened they'd have found a place for Utah. I suspect they were talking all along.

Scott's reputation is probably only damaged with the stupid fans.

Also, bear in mind up here in Washington people are frustrated. They want a miracle cure for their program, and they're worried about losing the trips to LA. The Cal schools fans are okay with Utah from what I've seen.

For all you parents out there with children going through the college application process for the first time, Larry Scott's experience can be very instructive. Always have a safety school!

Definition: A safety school is a college that you will almost certainly get into because your test scores, class rank and / or high school grades are well above average when you look at the school's profile. Even if you're a valedictorian with perfect SAT scores, you should never consider the top U.S. colleges and top universities to be safety schools. The admissions standards at these schools are so high that no one is guaranteed acceptance.

When applying to colleges, it's important to choose your schools wisely. You should make sure you apply to a mix of reach schools, match schools and safety schools.
Larry Scott, love him or hate him, had a safety school. Learn from Larry.
                    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

LOL, then Larry needs to hire a new PR man/woman.

Sometimes things actually are as they appear. The Pac-10 got stiffed by Texas +4. Larry flew to Texas to finalize the deal only to be sent home the next day with his panties on inside-out and "Beebe" tattooed to his butt. We all watched it.
