I'm surprised that Boise State agreed to it right now, though. If Pac 16 doesn't happen, they've just moved from a flaccid WAC to a flaccid MWC. I guess they decided that a MWC without BYU, TCU, or Utah is better than the WAC anyway.

No offense to Utah, but it just doesn't have the rep in Texas.
Yes, it is my Texan perspective as well that BYU is pretty much respected around here. For example, my TCU friends and I go to the games (vs. BYU or Utah) together, hang out at the tailgate, and sit together. It seems that TCU fans generally like BYU fans better than the Ute fans. The good PR of large number of mormons helping out with hurricane and twister disasters around here may have helped BYU's image.

Utah goes to Pac 10, BYU & TCU to Big 12. I thought Utah to Big 12 at first but the more i think about it, TCU is much more of an obvious choice. That would be a helluva conference
Out of all the possibilities of UT moving to a different conference I would say that best chances are UT, A&M, and et. el. going to the PAC-10. But I have to agree that the Big 12 getting patched up is most likely what is going to happen. I don't see the Big 12 staying at 10 teams either. It seems all the big conferences will have (at least) 12 teams.

I am not too sure about TCU being added to the Big 12. TCU draws a good amount of fans to their stadium, and there is even talk about expanding it, but TCU lacks the alumni it seems. Maybe it is because tuition there is so damm much. TCU football has done well lately but I have to wonder if it will last. It might. Gary Patterson has built a good program. Utah just seems like a better addition. I wouldn't be surprised if Utah is really on the table to be added to the Big 12.

Edit: Also if SU is thinking this way then it is going to happen. See http://www.cougaruteforum.com/showpo...4&postcount=46

What about the Sunday play problem? Is BYU a realistic candidate for the Big 12? I have a hard time believing the conference will be that accommodating for just a single team. Am I wrong on this?

I think the only impact would be the Conference Hoops Tourney and that could be adjusted or BYU could just forfeit if they got that far. I think it is an impediment but I stand by my assertion that football will drive this ship and everything else will work around that goal.

            • The latest from Chip Brown:

Sources told Orangebloods.com Nebraska's Board of Regents will formally approve the Cornhuskers' move to the Big Ten in a meeting in Lincoln Friday.

So today is Nebraska's day. (Unless you count that press conference in Boulder with Colorado and the Pac-10 at Folsom Field.)

Don't look for any of the Big 12 South schools being targeted by the Pac-10 (Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State or Texas Tech) to make any annnouncements about heading west until next week.

The situation at A&M seems to be shaping up like this: A&M regent Gene Stallings (who won a national title at Alabama in 1992) and A&M System Chancellor Mike McKinney are leading a charge to land the Aggies in the Southeastern Conference.

Sources told me A&M president R. Bowen Loftin and athletic director Bill Byrne are actually in favor of going to the Pac-16, despite Byrne's public statements last week about not wanting to travel west in a new conference.

I was told Loftin and Byrne are deferring right now to McKinney and Stallings and that someone will need to come in and break the tie or settle things in Aggieland - like Gov. Rick Perry.

Perry has been mysteriously silent in all of this realignment talk.

Sources said if Texas A&M decides to go the SEC, the other Big 12 South schools being targeted for expansion (Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State) would go to the Pac-10 without the Aggies.

The Aggies could be given a deadline to meet by the Pac-10 or face having A&M's invitation revoked and offered to a school like Utah or Kansas, sources said.

If I'm not mistaken, the Big 12 tournament has ended on Saturday night the last few years. It is the Big 10 that ends on Sunday.

Yep, in fact this is just one more sign that the Big 12 has always wanted BYU. They moved the bball tourney back just to accomodate the day that someone jumps ship so they could welcome us with open arms. Luckily for the Big 12 Colorado is leaving and they are getting BYU. Talk about an upgrade for the North division!!!

Conference USA is rapidly preparing to compete for the remaining Big 12 members if the meltdown continues to a full implosion.
