Nope. Life threw a curve ball at me and I needed the money else where. It seems that my work shift is going to change and I may not be playing as often as I wanted to so now I am contemplating if I should even pick a set up. If I decide to get a set, I am thinking about building my own set of knock-offs. If I do that, I will be picking the brains of many here.

Went out at 5:30 this morning. I started and finished with a par, other than that I was atrocious shooting a 94 Not a single club felt comfortable in my hand today. I was in the sand 5 different times. I honestly thought things were starting to come together for me, but everything felt wrong today.

I shot a 105 yesterday at Stonebridge in Salt Lake my worst round in about 5 years. Sadly I was making solid contact but was spraying the ball all over the place at a course with no forgiveness.

I've been trying to get a lesson with this one instructor for about 3 weeks now. We set it up, he doesn't show (or, as I found out later, he was waiting for me in the bar while I was on the range). Next time, his battery dies. Next time, he has to go out of town on an emergency the night before the lesson, then is leaving on vacation for 2 weeks.

Someone is opposed to me improving my golf game.

Played after work yesterday. Shot a 98. Had a good front 9 (45) and a horrible back (53). I am usually 2-4 strokes better on the back 9 of this course, so this 53 was a real meltdown.

I tried out a sleeve of the Top Flight Gamer V2 golf balls. They are harder than the Bridgestone's that I use (B300 Rx). The distance gained was maybe 5-10 yards on the drives, but I had a hard time keeping it in the fairway. Had ok spin into the green. They seemed a bit more unpredictable than the Bridgestones, but it could have been me. Overall, for a $20 a box golf balls, it is pretty good, but I think I'll stick to my bridgestones.

Followed up my worst round of the year on Thursday (94) with my best round of the year (80). I've actually shot 80 3 or 4 times this year but I played the best today. I only made one par putt more than 5 feet, everything else was 2 ft or shorter tap ins. I hit more fairways and greens in regulation than I have all year. Plus I took my boys and came home with a dozen extra balls. My 12 year old loves to hunt for animals and balls in the rough. The 10 year old likes to swing as hard as he can on every shot (with a teed up ball), but mainly they go with me so they can take turns driving the cart.

I had my first lesson in 6 years (and 3rd lesson in my life) this morning. I think the instructor is legit, but I'm just having a hard time getting used to some of the changes he made to my position at address.

He made my grip much stronger, which obviously feels totally wacky. He also had me drop my hands a bit to create more of an angle between my arms and the club. That is going to take some getting used to, since I now feel like I'm swinging a "V" out there. He also "unlocked" my elbows at address, which make me feel like I'm starting a bit out of control.

THis is why I haven't yet taken my son. You don't go hunting for golf balls off the beaten path in Houston or you are likely to find critters that don't want to be messed with. I'll have to take some pictures of the "beware of rattlesnakes" or "beware of skunks" or "beware of water snakes" signs.

Once I was on the tee box and right next to hte cart path there was a decent sized frog that was slowly being eaten by some snake. I've also had to putt on a green that literally had 30 small frogs on it.

Just played Bear Dance, which is located inbetween Denver and CoSprings. Very beautiful course. I stunk it up with a 99 (5 penalties!!) which is mainly due to me not hitting a fairway until the 9th hole. I did have some good parts and was hitting my long irons very solid but long. I struggled with the change in altitude which I think was the reason I was hitting everything long. The greens are also much faster than what I'm used to in Texas.

In spite of the 99, the golf course was worth it just for the views. Here's one I took with my phone:

                                Shot a 105 tonight. (58+47)

Seriously, I am not sure whats up. I am getting worse. I am going to attribute it to my new workout and losing weight. Maybe I have David Duval syndrome. Its almost as if I have never played before. I am crushing my drives, but I have lost all touch with my irons and putter.

I just got the go ahead to play in the Taft City Amateur this weekend. If I can find my swing, I'd have a good chance to win my flight. If I play like the last 36 holes, I'll be laughed off the course. I am tempted to hang up my clubs until my Utah trip at the end of the month......Very Frustrating.
