I've never tried the Power Hitter, but I own the Momentus Swing Trainer, and it has helped me cure the fades. However, it also has me trying to draw the ball, which I find annoying, since, after years of being a fade player, I have a tough time forcing myself to set up for a draw.

I'm sure it is a grass is always greener thing, but I constantly work on trying to draw the ball. I get sick of seeing my ball land the same place as others only to watch it die 30 yards shorter than those who work it right to left.

My miracle nine today I was hitting a well controlled draw with everything other than my driver, which was a true power fade instead my usual weak 230ish draw. It felt so nice!

I will probably pull the trigger on the Power Hitter. I need to get ready for next March to hang with you (assuming you give me 4 strokes per side).

Donut I've heard on here you are a player. If you score well with your fade I wouldn't do anything to mess that up. Back in high school, a hundred years ago, I always hit a nice little fade and did pretty well with it. I wanted to start hitting a draw for more distance and I thought it looked cooler. Well I worked at it and I got my draw but what comes with a draw is also a hook and it's ten times harder to get rid of than a slice. I wish I had that little fade back and I could just aim down the left side and let it fade into the middle.

Good to know. I've actually been feeling this exact struggle with my game lately, so maybe I'll stop now. Hopefully it's not too late.

          • So I like the Gamer V2's. Really liked them. Went through a sleeve of them today though.

But it was 2 man best ball and I was trying to mash it after my partner his 1 or 2 of his decent shots all day. We got killed. My partner couldn't pick me up at all when I hit a crappy shot. It's also frustrating because the guy looks like Andre the Giant but drives the ball maybe 200 yards. And more often than not tops the ball and it doesn't get past the ladies' tees. The other pair in our foursome won but they had the best golfer in our office. He carried them. He had a freaking sweet hole out from about 60 yards on the last hole. I golf with him quite a bit and I try and mimic everything he does.

Also DT, I love the driver. I was able to work the ball a bit with it, but I liked the distance. I was 5 yards shy of driving a short par 4 that I cut the corner on. And then on a par 5 with three bunkers that you have to carry 250 to go over I easily made it over. I really need to work on a 3/4 swing with my PW or add a GW to my bag. My SW goes about 60-70 yards and a mile high. My PW I hit about 120-130. If I am between there (which happened on about 3-4 holes today including two 100 yard par 3s) I struggle. I can't commit to a decent follow through it seems with a 3/4 swing. Often times I chunk the ball and hit it fat because I speed up my downswing to compensate for the lack of shoulder turn. It's mental and it messes me up. Any tips for this?

The Gamer V2 is long, spins pretty good, and is very durable. Most people will lose it before its too ugly to play anymore.

Regarding your 3/4 swing. Let's really call it a 1/2 swing because you can control a 1/2 swing much better than a 3/4 swing, and it would be a better place to begin. Strange as it may sound, I'm more consistent with a 1/2 swing 9 iron from 100 yards, than a full 52*. If you have a problem chunking it or hitting fat, try a 9 or wedge with a half swing, and you'll have a lot more control than a full swing, and not near as likely to hit fat when your so under control. After you hit 50-60 shots on a range with a 1/2 swing 9 iron, you'll be amazed at the control and consistency you'll find. If you need to go less yardage, drop down a club. One of my favorite shots is a 40 yarder, with 1/2 swing, 56* that hops and stops. It's cool looking, and it works.

On your 1/2 swing is your grip any different? Specifically I mean hand placement. Do you choke down at all? Is your takeaway and backswing the same as a full swing, just shortened? I need to get to the range.

Grip's the same, you might choke down an inch for better control. Club comes up waist high or less. If you come up short, go to lower loft, or fuller swing. Hands in front of ball at impact, which creates the spin, that gives the distance control. The result your looking for is that you will hit the ball straight - every time - the variable here is in distance control. Hitting 100 balls will make you an expert.

                  • On Friday I took my manager and head maintenance guy from Washington golfing at Kayak Point, it was a really fun course and I will probably try and make a stop there next summer.

I flirted with 80s for the first time ever, finishing with a 92 my new low round.

                    • Golfers, please help me out with your opinion.

In my search for ever new and fun golf toys for my husband, I am considering buying him a stimpmeter.

He is probably a good enough golfer to be able to adjust his putting for the speed of the green, so he would be able to use it. However, it is $70, kind of spendy.

Here's my question: would you want a stimpmeter if someone gave it to you? Would you throw it in the garage with the rest of your golf training aids? Would you actually use it? Do you think $70 is too expensive? Can you gauge the speed of the green by rolling a ball across it, thus not needing a stimpmeter?

Does anyone out there actually own one?

                      • No I don't own one, and am not sure that if I had one, if it would be helpful. Knowing that a green is a 6,8,10,12 on the stimp is not as valuable as 5 minutes on the practice green. And to be honest, I'd feel a little funny doing a stimp test on the practice green, because of two things. 1st, People would observe me doing something that would be of little consequence to my performance, and doing something unusual that nobody would do in a whole year of practice green occurrence. 2nd, The practice green is always a little slower than the 1st hole, so the information gathered would be off anyway. For the money I vote thumbs down, unless you have a real green in your back yard, which then it would be a must have.

For $70 I'd buy some personalized golf balls with a monogrammed name, and perhaps a special number. (Taylormade lets you choose any double digit number on a special order. The Penta's are good and new balls, and a little unusual still.)

Here would be my problem with a stimpmeter: rarely are the practice greens on a course the same speed as the actual greens. While it may be fun to know what the practice greens are rolling at, I'm not sure I'd ever get the stimpmeter out to measure the greens on the course. In light of that, I'd be using feel to gauge the speed of the greens anyway.

                          • I played The Ranches on Saturday and I wish I had a stimpmeter because those greens were blazing fast. In fact they were cut so short that you could see the dirt in some spots. I have never played greens that fast, might as well go out and putt in the parking lot.

I cannot think of even one reason a person would need their own personal stimpmeter. Buy him a range finder if he doesn't have one already.
