I had my first lesson today over at Golf Galaxy in Murray. They have a pretty nice setup where they film you from multiple angles. It was pretty easy for the pro to pinpoint my biggest problem. If you look at the pic below you can see an illustration.

The right pic shows the before. All my weight stays on my right leg and I do not get my hips turned until after I've hit the ball which means my hips are in the way. This causes me to A. Rise up at the last second hitting the ball thin B. To get my clubhead square I compensate with my right hand.

The left pic shows a corrected swing. My stance is not as wide, My head is up a bit, my left elbow stays fairly straight and my hips are releasing just before I start my downswing. Big difference. I never would have figured this out on my own. The pro, Mike Bickler, gave me some exercises that force me to do things correctly. After the lesson they email you a video complete with the instructors comments. It showed a bunch of different things as well as swing analysis. It also shows me doing the drills to correct the problems. I'm headed back in a week to further fine tune things. I couldn't recommend Mike more highly.

Left pic is after, right pic is before.

I had a similar less at that same Golf Galaxy about 7 years ago. I agree that it was a very good lesson and worth the price.

As a general rule I don't take any mulligans or gimmie putts. If the course is busy I don't go back and rehit an OB ball just take the penalty and drop with distance. (In fact in my Tuesday night men's league about 80% of the guys curse the guys that do come back and re-tee as it slows the course way down, sorry Clack.)

It is one of the things that I love/hate about playing with my FiL, he plays "friendly" rules, doesn't putt much longer than about 4 feet, a new one he has started to say is that he doesn't think you should take a penalty if you hit a ball that can't be found but could have if you were on the PGA tour. When he plays with his old man group he is always in the low 90s, when he plays with me and I make him putt and take penalties he is always in the low 100s. It drives him insane.

Yes! I love this rule. We call it the Tiger Woods rule. If Tiger would have hit that ball at the Master's, would have the crowd found the ball for him? If so, no penalty!

I am enjoying reading this thread. Haven't played golf for a week to see if that helps the physical issues I am dealing with.

Good news it didn't change a thing, which means golf isn't causing or exaggerating the situation.

I will be back at it tomorrow, depending on the weather.

I played my first nine in about a year yesterday at Fox Hollow. In the last couple years I've only played about twice a year, and it's killing me. But on the upside, it means I have no expectations and I enjoy my rounds more.

I played 7 of the 9 holes at 3-over. The other two were snowmen on par-4s. But I had some good shots, it was great weather, and good company. We'll see when I get to play next....

I'm impressed with Kevin Na. He took ownership and is making changes. All with a good attitude. Good for him.

Anybody here hit Srixon irons or have an opinion on them? I have never hit them and won't have a chance to but I got a sweet deal for a set if I want.

Good for him, I thought NBC was totally unfair to him and egged on the crowd by mentioning it every 10 seconds at The Players.

Sorry... not enough information. I looked up Srixon Irons and the're several models. Regarding Srixon as a whole, they are a brand name of Cleveland, a major club maker and they are not "junker" clubs, that's for sure. If the deal is good, the clubs should hold up their end deal.
