  • I played a round this afternoon (since I am officially on vacation this weekend I skipped church) and I got the Tick to sin with me. Anyways, I shot a 94 and well...he kicked my ass. His best round ever. He is unstoppable.

          • I haven't posted in a while because I am so dang frustrated. Well, maybe I am a little less frustrated because I am now shooting in the low 80's instead of the high 80's. Still I would have thought the 70's would occur long before now.

My chipping is absolutely killing me. I have never had a mental block last this long.

Number 10, both Friday and Saturday I was about 20 yards from the green in two. Took a 7 both days. I lose 4-6 shots a round due to chips that go to the RIGHT!!!

Dude...I was on fire. I could be 40 feet away from the hole and I was lagging to within 2 feet.

It was just a good 2 days of golf all together.

On hole 16 I took a bogey. My drive went left bad and hit a tree and came back 75 yards. I was in a tree line. Only shot was a 5 iron to toss it back into the fairway. I hit it great and I left myself with a 80 yard shot to the front. I pull out the sand wedge...bunker. I hit it out of the bunker and put it within 5 feet. I drop the putt.

It went like that all day. 87 and 85 might be bad scores to some folks, but to me...that is lights out. First time I have ever broken 90, and I did it two rounds in a row.

Its all about the mental hurdle. Nobody thought it was humanly possible to break a 4 minute mile, thousands had tried and just could not do it. ROger Bannister comes along and runs the first sub 4 minute mile in 1954. 6 weeks later Bannisters record was broken over the next 10 years 35 runners would break 4 minutes and to this day hundreds have now done it, including a high school kid (Alan Webb).

I think you are going to be shooting in the 80s quite a bit from here on out.

I found a set that I am going to look at in Nashville on Friday. Ping i5's / white dot / played twice w/ a OGIO stand bag used twice and he threw in a Calloway driver for $300. I think that is a good deal as long as they are in good shape and I like the feel.
So Phat, did you buy these clubs? If not, did you get something else?

                  • Clack,

I picked up a box of the Top Flite Gamer V2's today.

Will see how they play this weekend.

It's funny that you say/did that. I was thinking today while playing one how great a ball it is, and nobody plays them. I'm not bragging here, I just want to make a point. I played with two people today who are comparable to me in ability and scoring. They both were playing Pro V1's. I consistently out drove them by about 10-15 yards. I wanted to tell them it was all ball, but I pretty much keep my mouth shut on the course. Early in the round the 21 year old kid remarked once about how far I out drove him, but I laughed it off as a blind squirrel getting lucky, by the end of the round it was kinda obvious the Titleist was hurting their distance.

It's with eager anticipation I await a glowing report on improved distance, without a lack of stopping around the green.

                      • I think best thing most hackers like myself can do is get at least 3 different wedges (I have 4) and learn exactly how far you can hit each one with a full and 3/4 swing. Though I often struggle turning over my wrists and pulling them more than I would like, I usually am very accurate on distances without having to make significant swing changes.

I have a 48, 52, 56, and 58. The 56 and 58 are somewhat redundant, but I feel very comfortable with the 56 from 75-15 yards and save the 58 for short tight shots and/or the bunker.

That makes me feel better, especially after HFN's post about how a 60* (presumably) won't improve my scores. Besides, I buy my wedges in 3-packs, so its not like I could say no!

                          • My distances are

                            PW (48*)- 105-130
                            52*- 80-105
56*- 15-75 ( I hate when something is 80 yards out, neither club feels comfortable to me)
58* tight lies inside of 20 yards or bunkers

For >75% of my shots around the green I now use my 48 degree if I have room to let the ball run a little. I use to my 56* but have changed to more of a chip shot and less of the longer swing pitch. This is generally one of the stronger parts of my game, but I've been struggling with it recently.

Do you forget I golfed with you, while you were all slathered in sun screen and losing your car keys? Your game needs a lot more than a 60 degree wedge.

You're right. Better go for the 64*.
