Hey DT, I recently bought some used G10 irons, black dot (I think I probably mentioned this already). The online fitting put me somewhere in the blue dot range, I believe. I think that's something like 1 degree upright?

Anyway, I'm wondering what exactly goes into a PING in-person fitting. Is it just combining my static measurements (wrist to floor, etc.) with the lie board results? In other words, if I can simulate the lie board part, is that enough?

Pretty much just a combination of the 2. We take all the measurments, then assemble the proper club from the fitting cart. we then have you hit the lie board and make adjustments from there. The carts also have a wide variety of shafts to select from so we could get you into proper shaft for your swing.

You can definatly do the lie board yourself to check if the club is right for you. Having someone who is trained do it for you can help with issues such as having the ball too far out or too close in your stance, too steep a swing, etc..which can also affect the lie angle.

        • I think I played the worst round of my life today. 114. I lost 6 balls. Not a single par. I think I 3 putted 5 times. I was so pissed off. Usually when you have a shitty round you at least have that shot or two that is amazing that keeps that fire stoked. Not today. I was ready to throw my clubs in the woods. I don't get it. Last night I went to the driving range and was parking my 8 iron 150 yards wherever I wanted. Today I couldn't hit a GIR. I was carrying 250 with my driver and today I was slicing the ball. Tighten my grip and I start snap hooking. I give up.

I found a nugget! A snap hook is good - it can be fixed, whereas a slice can be a lifelong problem. If you can snap hook, you can shoot in the 70's... keep the faith.

              • If you golf right handed a hook is to the left, slice to the right. Reverse if you golf left handed.

I would say that's more true if one's snap hooks are starting out on or right of the target line (for a righty) and then hooking. That would be encouraging actually for a slicer. But if the snap hooks are starting left of the target line and then getting worse, it's less comforting as it still indicts an out-to-in swing path. But I guess you're right that at least it means that person isn't holding on through impact and preventing the release of the clubhead.

I used to be a slicer, like 85% or whatever of golfers. I'm still not great (don't play near enough anyway) but it's nice to be able to completely ignore hazards on the right side of the fairway, aim down the right, and count on a draw or at worst a hook.

The change all happened in swing path and grip.

                  • It happened. And my best friend was no where to be found. I did golf with a High Councilman though, so there was a witness.

Crazy part...I left 4 shots out there.

                    No complaints.

good job, might as well say you got a hole in 1.

Seriously, good job. Wanna golf tomorrow? I am still on vacation.

                      Who did you golf with?

Its amazing what happens when you limit the doubles and avoid the others. Then you mix in a birdie or two and it changes the whole dynamic of your score.

Its the 7's and 8's that kill your round. Congrats on shooting in the 80s, considering you just started playing a lot recently (within the last year right?) that is a lot of progress in a short amount of time.

(On a side note: I played The Ranches today, par 5, 520 yards I shank my tee shot out of bounds. Tee up again and put it about 290 down the middle. So I am about 230 out, pull out a 4 iron, hit it pretty good but I thought I was going to be short of the green, it hits the front of the green takes one hop right in to the cup for a birdie. To bad I went OB otherwise I had a double eagle).

We have been playing pretty regularly for the last year and a half I would say.

The best thing I did was lessons. I spent 400.00 since last June on lessons. I had a terrible grip issue that I kinda self diagnosed half way through the lessons. Fixed that and whammo! I went from a 165-170 yard driving average to 205-220 average. (We play on a fairly windy course. Every other hole you are hitting directly into a fairly strong wind. Wind at your back...270. Into the wind...185.)

But today it was just...natural. It was a strange feeling...but everything felt just right.

My distance putting was pretty good. I think I ended with 28-29 putts only. I holed out from 15 feet off of the green for a par on the 10th. 0 putts on that hole.
