As I am driving down 1-80 today on my way to Tooele for a round of golf I see a sign flashing overhead "Caution: High Winds" then it changes "Wind gusts up to 45 mph".

I should have turned around right then and there. Instead I hit up Overlake in Tooele with a friend of mine that lives out there.

8 of the first 9 holes were directly in to the wind. It was absolutely brutal. 135yards out I crush a 7 iron which I normally hit between 165-170 I come up short just on the fringe.

Off the tee I probably averaged about 220-230 tops. Anything over 160 yards I was hitting hybrid in to the green. On more than one hole we had to mark our balls and wait as the second we would place our ball it would start to move.

Hole 9 was the first hole with the wind at our back, 415 yard par 4. I was 20 yards off the green.

Back 9 we had 3 holes with the wind at our back the problem was 2 of them were par 3s. 200 yard par 3 I hit 7 iron and flew the green by 20 yards. 165 yard par 3, I hit pitching wedge and stuck it about 4 feet from the hole, I started the ball about 40 yards right of the hole and let the wind bring it back.

Rough day ended up shooting a 96.

Ok. So I just broke my 4 and 7 irons practicing for Friday. I am now down a 3,4,5, and 7 iron.
I am going to need to buy some new irons. Advice?

....sounds like its time for a new set of clubs. What are you doing with these things, anyway?

Graphite shafts are bad when you suck and hit ground frequently. I need to get a new set. Any advice to brand model etc. I am willing to pay about $400-600.

I'll sell my mine for $375. In "the rest of us", I've been musing new irons, as I need a softer flex than stiff. They're 6 months old, and I've just put new grips on them. They are T7 Heads and Pro Launch Blue Stiff Shafts.

If you wanted to pay overnight we could, but my sons are coming up from Provo, and will be back in Provo on Monday the 6th. Whatever you'd like. Let's go boardmail.

                BTW... they're 4-SW

Check out golfetail.com. Right now they're selling Callaway FT Irons (4-PW) for $349.99. That's a steal for these. They have graphite in regular, senior, and stiff flex, and steel in Callaway's uniflex. Add them to your cart. The price will be $439.99 and then use coupon FTIRON-0830 to bring the price $349.99. Shipping is free. They have expedited shipping for an additional fee. See below.

                  Ground - FREE
                  3 Day Air - $12.99
                  2 Day Air - $19.99
                  Next Day Air - $34.99

These are nice sticks. They came out in '08-09 season and made the Golf Digest Hot List. Seem to have great reviews and retailed for over a grand. Cheapest elsewhere I can find on the internet is $500.

So you know that coupon expires tonight at 11:59 PM est. Also the clubs are game improvement irons aimed at the mid handicapper.

Has anybody here played the Promontory Golf Club up at Park City? A friend from Rexburg works as an accountant for the club and hooked us up with a tee time at the Pete Dye course Saturday morning. I'm pretty excited about playing down there and just wanted to see what others thought of the course.

Tick and I just finished up a round at Legacy with Donut & Falafel. Even though the course had already scalped all the fairways for seeding and there was loose grass everywhere, i think we all had a good time. Tick had a great front 9 and shot a 43, but struggled a bit on the back and shot a 52 for a 95. I had a few disasterous holes mixed in with some solid play. I shot a 50 on the front and a 43 on the back for a 93.

It was a good start to our golf weekend. I am hoping for even better scores in the next few days. Tomorrow is Wasatch lake and mountain courses.

FTR, I was 45 on the front and 5 over through 5 on the back, on pace for a 90, before I had to withdraw for personal reasons.

Sounds like one of my buddies, I have never golfed with him without his wife calling him 4-5 times asking when he will be home and what hole he is on.
