I found a set that I am going to look at in Nashville on Friday. Ping i5's / white dot / played twice w/ a OGIO stand bag used twice and he threw in a Calloway driver for $300. I think that is a good deal as long as they are in good shape and I like the feel.
Let me know if you decide to get those or not.

White Dot is 3° upright with a 1/2" extension. That is the exact fit that I need. Not easy to find.

And, IIRC, 3 degrees is a lot to bend back, if it turns out you need to bend them. I can't remember what the max they'll bend them, but if you have to go into negative territory, you might not be able to do it.

Before you buy white dots, you'd probably want to get fitted.

The G5s would probably be easier to hit/more forgiving/higher launch. Also, do you think you need the white dot? I can't remember what sort of adjustment that is. But you could always get fitted later and send your clubs to Ping for an adjustment for like $20. But beggars can't be choosers. Sounds like a good deal.
According to an online "fitment" and measurements that myself and my Carpenter Foreman took (that was an interesting ordeal) I am exactly in between a white and a green. Seeing that I have been playing with my dad's set and he is 4-5 inches taller than me, I think that they will work out just fine. If not and I can't hit them well after giving them a fair shake, I can always trade them in or sell them. I have been hitting a set of i3s and I have been hitting them better than any other wedges. It seems like I have better control. Will this transition to the i5s? Maybe, maybe not. I hope so.

I played again today at a local CC. It is nice but not great by any means. The co-workers that I was playing with are members and told me that it only cost them $75/mo. That includes the golf, the country club for social events, the pool, and access to the Pro. The initiation fee is $400 but they both told me that it is always $100 in Feb. I am planning on joining for the simple fact that it is on the way to work and it looks like I am going to be working a night shift for the next few years so I need to make the most of it.

I played worse today than I did last week. My swing is all over the place. I need to take lessons and until then really study my swing and make adjustments as I see fit. Are there any tv shows that people recommend for pointers? What about good DVDs? I suppose if I am going to get into this damn sport I might as well be decent at it. Besides, I know that Surfah and my FIL are playing quite a bit more than I have been so I need to make up some ground...and fast!

White dot is just 3º upright. They could be standard length or longer.

Ping can adjust i5's up to 4º, but if they have already been adjusted, it may be less. You can call ping and give them the serial # of the clubs and they can tell you. It cost $17.00 for the set to get the lie angle adjusted. For $20 a club, they will tumble the heads and repaint them to like new.

If you do end up getting them, take them to a ping fitter and double check your fitment. The online static fitment can get you close, but you cant be sure unless you hit the clubs on their lie board.

The Ping I3's used to be my favorite set of clubs back when I worked in a pro shop
I could never afford them. . After I quit, Ping gave everyone in the shop a complete set of clubs. They got to choose between the S59's, I3's, or G2's. They a staff bag, driver, set of irons, 3-5 wood and a craz-e putter. I got jack. One of the associates tried to get me to buy the set off of him for 1300.

I am right on the border between the greens and the whites. My wrist is 36 1/2" from the ground and am almost 6'2". Maybe I can make it to the local golf shop before I go to Nashville on Friday, just to make sure. Thanks for all the advice.

One of the best ways to monitor your individual lie-degree is to take a standard club, and use it as a baseline. Put masking tape on the bottom of the club, and swing it on a surface that is flat and not fluffy. A black mat is the best, but in a pinch smooth concrete will work, and wood too (like a deck not hard wood floors.) Carpet, or grass will not provide the detailed information needed. The mark will be too wide.

Swing the baseline standard and look at the mark on the bottom. The mark should be about a 1/4" wide. Look on the bottom for the mark and see how it corresponds to the face of the club. If the mark is in line with the sweet spot on the face, you are standard. It does not matter how tall you are - or how long your arms are - or how how much you enjoy from being deviant from standard. The sweet spot is the sweet spot.

If you mark the tape towards the outside face line, towards the toe, a standard club is too upright. 2*'s flat is usually the fix in this regard.

If you mark the tape towards the inside face line, towards the heal, a standard club is too flat. 2*'s upright is the fix in this regard.

90% of all people will mark the tape under the sweet spot.

Clack, are you referring to face tape or sole tape? If you referring to taping the sole, you are backwards.

Marks that are out toward the toe indicate you need to have a more upright lie angle while marks toward the heel of the club indicate needing more of a flat lie angle.

It's almost midnight here, and I went to the garage, and as weird as it seems, I can see both perspectives. I'll stand by the method, but differ to the analysis. Any other opinions? We can figure it out by committee.

I was fit by the Cleveland rep and my sole tape was on the toe. He told me 3° upright. (It makes sense, because bending the club up would lift the toe off of the ground.)

I just wish I had known 4 months earlier when I got my steal of a deal on my Nike VR.

No big deal. I was trained by Ping as an authorized club fitter. I probabbly fit over 100 people for new clubs while I worked at the pro shop.

                                Taken from http://www.ralphmaltby.com/17

It is very important to have any wedge fitted to the golfer. The lie angle is very important and needs to be properly set so that on ¾ to full shots the clubhead comes into impact with the face plane square to the intended target. If the lie angle is not set properly and the toe is up at impact (lie angle too upright) the ball will be pulled to the left of the target. Conversely, if the toe is down at impact (lie angle too flat) the ball will be pushed to the right of the target. This toe up or toe down thing is one of the most important fitting variables in wedges because the greater the loft angle (all the wedges), the greater the ball misdirection control when the lie angle is not set properly for the golfer.
