If A&M to the SEC wasn't pressured by the legislature why is Texas to the PAC-12? aTm is leaving to make more money. Texas would be doing the same. Because A&M to the SEC leaves Texas, Texas Tech and Baylor in the Big XII. Texas leaving for the PAC could kill the Big XII.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostIf A&M to the SEC wasn't pressured by the legislature why is Texas to the PAC-12? aTm is leaving to make more money. Texas is outplaying a&m on and of the field.
I think those sharks that are circling are from Baylor.A source in the Big 12 says there is also an increasing likelihood of litigation against the Southeastern Conference as well as the Pac-12 if the Big 12 comes apart."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

While I applaud your grammatically correct use of the term "beg the question" (take notes, everyone), I disagree. A&M's departure leaves Texas, Texas Tech, and Baylor in stable situations. They might have been a little worse off, but the move was probably Kaldor-Hicks efficient. Texas' departure screws Baylor over royally, and unless Tech goes along with them, them too. Texas may be better off, but the pain felt in the other institutions would be significant.Originally posted by Babs View PostThat begs his question.τὸν ἥλιον ἀνατέλλοντα πλείονες ἢ δυόμενον προσκυνοῦσιν

I bet the Arizona schools, Utah and Colorado just can't wait to vote the ok and tx teams onto the Pac and divide themselves from the Ca schools and get a nice helping of litigation in the process.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostAlso, I thought this was interesting...

The Pac 16 ain't happening folks, at least not any time soon.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

While I applaud your appreciation for grade-school grammar, you've yet to answer MRD's question. He asked why the state legislature should care if both Texas and A&M leave for greener pastures. As he implies, nobody in the current state government cares about Baylor or Tech, so it's not that.Originally posted by All-American View PostWhile I applaud your grammatically correct use of the term "beg the question" (take notes, everyone), I disagree. I think they like the state of Texas being the dominant power behind a conference. They're seeing that slip away, and they don't like it. They don't want Texas to become a mere satellite around another conference's gravitational force.

If the Big 12 sticks around, Texas still has four BCS teams, well unless you consider the Big East a real BCS conference. If Texas goes to the Pac, there's a chance TX only ends up with two BCS teams.Originally posted by Babs View PostWhile I applaud your appreciation for grade-school grammar, you've yet to answer MRD's question. I don't believe this. I think it is lore. Do you have a source other than Val Hale.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostYou are actually incorrect. Val Hale was on 1320 the other day and said when he was AD the Pac-10 ADs unanimously approved BYU as the 11th member. It then went to the presidents and it was 9-1. The vote had to be unanimous and he said one of the more liberal schools shot them down. He did not mention specifically who it was. But he did hint that it might have been Stanford.
BYU has been very much on the PACs radar for a long time. He also said they had talks with the Big East, Big 12 and Big 10 regularly. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Lol How about the Stanford or the USC AD?Originally posted by Surfah View PostOther than the AD? LOL.
I can't think of a person more lacking in credibility on this subject than a BYU administrator. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Jim Livengood, BYU grad and then the AD at Arizona, told me the same thing in about 2003. The only difference was he said it was two presidents. Stanford and Cal. I think I posted it, maybe on TBS, but I don't have access any more.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostI don't believe this. I think it is lore.
