  • Stupid statement by Boone Pickens

Big words for a man propping up the thriving urban sprawl of Stillwater, Oklahoma.

And BYU? Who in the hell knows where Provo, Utah, is?

Why not aTm with texas & the ok schools? Texas gets rid of the longhorn network aTm is happy. Sec has not invited aTm yet. As longas we are talking longshots to the pac12 why not mention aTm?

I would not knock Boone. This is a guy who has singlehandedly redirected federal legislation. You can imagine how much sway he has over the state government. His influence over what happens with OSU (and by extension OU and the realignment in general) is difficult to overstate.

            • Okie State's place at the table is pretty much assured.

Here's what I think about the situation:

              1. I don't see how the PAC 12 gets the necessary votes to add four new teams which would essentially isolate four of the existing members from the California schools. I also can't see a north-south division alignment compromise getting the job done-- would the SoCal schools be cool with even more isolation from the Bay area schools? At some point the schools will ask themselves whether it's worth the cost and disintegration of long standing relationships.

              2. If a Pac 16 were somehow formed, BYU would have a chance of inclusion given the new bylaws and the fact that the conference would essentially be two sub-conferences so there would be space between the Bay Area schools and BYU.

              3. The votes from the PAC members may not be the most difficult thing for BYU. First, aTm is still up for grabs. Do they hate Texas enough to simply go to the SEC instead of a stable PAC 16? I still think that the source of contention is the LHN. So, that leaves the situation where TT is up for grabs and the only viable expansion option in Texas. Would Texas want to leave TT behind and risk the SEC potentially getting two programs in Texas? Wouldn't the PAC 10 rather have two programs in Texas for recruiting purposes? Or is the fact that TT is in Lubbock and divided from the major population centers make it a place that doesn't exactly build recruiting pipelines? Finally, how about Kansas? It's basketball program should trump whatever BYU brings to the table, right? Would it have problems joining because k-state would be left out? You think this kind of stuff matters until it doesn't, look at Utah leaving for the PAC 12 with little to no thought about BYU getting left behind.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I am sure SU will be fine, but when you stoop that low, it is more a reflection of your character.

Yes he is and he is perfectly capable of defending himself, but continued personal attacks, especially those involving someone's family, are out of line and in extremely poor taste.

We intend to poke some eyes... but lose sight of how far we take it sometimes.

I've said stuff I regret later. Most of us probably have.
