The Big 12 expansion groundswell

I'll be a broken record and say again that I think an annual Utah-BYU matchup, PAC-12 vs. Big 12, would be beyond awesome.

What you would know about me if you knew me is that I get shit done. I write letters to the editor. I picket, protest, and march. And I've taken on bigger organizations than BYU, and gotten them to give up stuff much more dear to them than an ESPN contract. No, I'm not trying to rub anything in, and I'm not trying to relish in anything. That's not my point. My point really and truly is that you (and those over at cougarboard) all ought to stop spending all your time talking to each other, complaining about the bum deal your team's administration is giving you, and you ought to organize and then talk to the press and the administration and demand that they apply to the Big XII without obstructions.

As a Ute fan, I want the rivalry preserved. Actually, I want it to grow, and I just don't see that happening if the status quo regarding conferences/independence is allowed to persist for 10 - 15 years.

The thing I'm currently thinking of is that I was central in getting the Department of Homeland Security to not build an 18 foot high wall on the campus of the University of Texas at Brownsville. Instead, they agreed to just extend a 6 foot chain-link fence by 2 feet. 2 feet of more chain link, and no barbed wire. That was mostly accomplished by marching, signing petitions, letters to the editor, and conducting training in nonviolent civil disobedience. There wasn't any picketing involved in that one, but it would be an important, even indispensable form of dissent if BYU is to join the Big XII.

EDIT: The change was agreed to by Michael Chertoff, Bush's DHS Secretary. The change had nothing to do with the election, which happened months later.
