Why was the CU invite made outside the rest of the Big 12 invites? It came right at a time when the rumor was that Texas wanted Baylor instead of CU and some of the Pac schools were balking at it. It does seem like they were forcing Texas' hand with that.

I think they added CU not to block Baylor for religious reasons but to ensure that they secure the Denver market. I think they believed that Texas deep down didn't care whether Baylor came or not.

I agree with you, but for the reasons stated by flystripper. Baylor brings nothing to the Pac 10. Perhaps they could see that the TX legislature or somebody was preparing to force Baylor on the PAC as a package deal for the rest of the schools. If you were planning on inviting Colorado regardless (either as a part of the PAC 16 or the PAC 12 with Utah), then why not do it now and get rid of the Baylor problem.

I don't get Y fans complaining about bigotry. I think some people in the PAC are seriously upset at the Church's support of Prop 8 and it's hard to blame them. The Church took a political stand and when you do that there are political consequences.

I don't think CU was added to block Baylor. I think CU was added because like me Larry always knew his plan was a long shot and he wanted to nail down the fall back. Clearly Baylor was never a high priority for Texas.

Nor is CU dead weight. In many respects it's stronger than half the Pac 10 schools by any measure. The Pac wanted CU for obvoius reasons. The market is bigger and it's academically stronger than any Big 12 member except Texas and TAMU. And it won a national championship in football not so long ago.

The "bigotry" nonsense has been discussed ad nauseum and need not be belabored here. It's not bigotry it's about values. It would be nice if BYU fans could accept their values and the attendant consequences without uttering drivel like bigotry. BYU has chosen its course. It should learn to live with it with dignity.

That's what you go to only after your Texas option is out. Inviting CU to block Baylor is the most logical reason I've heard yet for the strange timing.

ftr, I'm not complaining about bigotry. I think it's an interesting angle to speculate that the Pac inviting CU early was a power move to block Baylor (for whatever reasons: bigotry, academic snobbery, TV market related, whatever) which might have ended up backfiring.

I can buy that the move to add CU was to block Baylor, but I don't think that religion was the primary reason they did it. (though I am sure religious affiliation didn't help them).
