Forget the PAC16. It's going to be the Pac12 with Utah/Colorado (good riddance to both) and BYU/TCU in the Big 12.

Baylor's had a near death experience and isn't going to complain one bit about their fellow thumpers from fort worth.

Holy cow, the Big 12 will be God's Conference: Mormons, Baptists and Pentacostals in one league. Now that's a story.
I'm with you brother. If Texas hitches its star to the Pac I'll lose all resepect for it. It will show deep insecurity in its own traditions and beliefs for one thing. What could be more indicative of the triumph of atheism and secularism than Texas and TAMU to the Pac, Texas and TAMU seduced by the glamour and materialism of hollywood and Palo Alto?

      .
I think you are correct but I think it will take actually being in this conference for Texas to realize that the thing does not work.

Of course, if you are correct a big loser in all of this is the Pac-10 and Larry Scott. Talk about egg on your face-immediately being spurned by a bunch of cow colleges! This will probably make or break his tenure.

The problem is UT let some left coast sissy become the president of the university and now he thinks UT is Cal Berkeley. The cultures of the two schools are very different. One UT alumnus summed it up by suggesting the new Pac-10+6 conference be called "Steers and Queers".

Baylor may be quicker to forgive their fellow christian brothers. They didn't have to suffer the embarrassment of not being in a non-BCS conference.

Of course, if Baylor is the ones left without a non-BCS home if things go to the Pac-10+6 then I am not sure TCU will share the love. (Yes, the MWC will be a BCS conference in a few years if they pick up a Mizzou or Kansas and another good Big 12 leftover.)

Lol. Maybe the Big 12 should add BYU, TCU, SMU and get ND on board. That wouldn't be a bad conference.

Can't we arrange for sushi to be served in the PAC meetings with the Big 12 teams? That ought to blow the deal.

tho it would be fun to own the Pac10 consistently, especially if Utah were somehow in it and able to be beaten up every year by the longhorns.

Do you think the 2004 and 2008 Longhorns would have beaten up the 2004 and 2008 Utes? Please support your pro-Texas response with some reasoning!

A Pac16 that includes Utah + Big 12 five is potentially better for BYU if MWC can pick up MU, KSU, KU maybe Memphis. It would be a premier basketball conference and a good football conference with an auto bid to BCS where BYU could have a perennial chance of getting the bid vs. Utah, which will become the Baylor of the Pac16.

Be careful what you ask for...

Of course, I still think Big 12 stays in place under my base case scenario

Yes. I expect plenty of these spine tingling opportunities to sing The Eyes of Texas after a UT smackdown of the Utes. I might like BYU but I love Texas.

I don't know but I believe that one of two good teams (UT or Utah) would have had a better shot at beating Florida in the title game than "Chokelahoma". If Utah played UT instead of Michigan and beat UT then the BCS computers would have had no choice but to throw Utah in the title game based on strength of schedule. If UT beat Utah rather playing Florida Atlantic (or whoever) then I believe they would have had a shot at Florida for the same reason. In either case I think one of the two could have beat Florida. The Utes had a good team that year, would have played Texas at home (I believe) and could have maybe beat them (just like Tech got lucky).

You forgot to include any facts or analysis. Don't you hate when that happens?

And I know the challenge for Utah in a PAC16 would be daunting, but this "Utah will be the new Baylor" is pretty weak smack. The two schools are apples and oranges in terms of resources, tradtion, and program strength. Besides, you are really knocking the MWC if you are saying its premiere program (on the national stage in the last decade, at least) would be a PAC16 doormat.

ok, i'm straying into the obnoxious zone.

here's my real thoughts on 2004 Utah: not really tested. If Utah played UT at Royal, forget it. UT wins. If at the 40,000 capacity stadium in SLC, then Utah could have perhaps maybe won on a good day. 2004 was sort of off for the Longhorns even though their record was very strong...lots of close games

In 2008, I think Utah has no chance. Texas lost a very exciting game to the Red Raiders in the dust bowl but otherwise beat 4 TOP 15 ranked teams that year. Texas was a very strong team in 2008 and would have handled Utah more easily than the Utes here might have expected.

oh Puh lease. Texas couldn't even stop Oklahoma or Tech. How in the world were they going to stop Tebow's crew?? And Tech just got lucky? good grief.

It's all well and fine to be landed in north texas, but it can't hurt to be grounded in reality, too!
