At first blush, this would seem absurd. But President Monson got Rev. Jenkins on the phone a few days ago and essentially said the following: "Hey, you guys got us into the Prop. 8 thing and we ended up carrying your water, to our social and athletic detriment. It's payback time." Thus, you can expect Notre Dame to end up in either the MWC, Big 12 or Big Sky, wherever BYU lands.

here's my real thoughts on 2004 Utah: not really tested. If Utah played UT at Royal, forget it. UT wins. If at the 40,000 capacity stadium in SLC, then Utah could have perhaps maybe won on a good day. 2004 was sort of off for the Longhorns even though their record was very strong...lots of close games

In 2008, I think Utah has no chance. Texas lost a very exciting game to the Red Raiders in the dust bowl but otherwise beat 4 TOP 15 ranked teams that year. Texas was a very strong team in 2008 and would have handled Utah more easily than the Utes here might have expected.

Forget the PAC16. It's going to be the Pac12 with Utah/Colorado (good riddance to both) and BYU/TCU in the Big 12.

I think Texas and Tech are in the P10+ as of right now, but I think that anytime before they sign off it could change and change dramatically.

We might be left coast sissies out here, but doesn't the idea of being the first Super/Mega conference also fit the mindset of Texas (the state in general not the Longhorns specifically)?

I guess anything is possible but UT in the pac10 doesn't pass the sniff test. We wanted to get rid of nu and now we want to be the heavy of our own power conference, not USC's.

New proposal to save Big 12 with 10 teams being considered by UT

Three different sources at Big 12 South schools being targeted by the Pac-10 told Orangebloods.com Sunday morning that Dan Beebe's attempts to secure a new TV deal on par with the SEC's $17 million/school payout for the 10 remaining schools in the Big 12 is in play.

--Beebe has secured information that enough money could be inked in its next TV negotiation (in 2011) that revenues per school would jump from between $7 million and $10 million in the Big 12 currently to $17 million, which is what the SEC pays out.

--Individal institutions would be allowed to pursue their own networks, which has been a goal of Texas. If the Longhorns went to the Pac-10, they would have to forgo their own distribution platforms, including a network, because the Pac-16 would seek to have a conference network in which all inventory is shared.

(Consultants have put Texas' ability to generate revenue from its own network at between $3 million and $5 million after a start-up window of about three years.)

--The loss of Nebraska and Colorado should have been a loss of about 16 percent to the league's revenue generating capacity. But because Colorado was an underperformer, the league lost only about 8.6 percent of its value with the loss of Nebraska, according to sources with knowledge of the Beebe Plan.

But with news that Texas is now seriously considering the Beebe Plan, there is a growing chance the Big 12, which is now at 10 schools (the Big Ten, by the way, is now at 12 schools) just might survive after all.

The Pac-10 has to be happy about CU with a comment like that.

The problem is UT let some left coast sissy become the president of the university and now he thinks UT is Cal Berkeley. The cultures of the two schools are very different. One UT alumnus summed it up by suggesting the new Pac-10+6 conference be called "Steers and Queers".

The cultures are more alike than you might think.

As with BYU, there's a disconnect between the university's stewards and titans and the alumi and fans' impoverished mentality. Ironically, BYU has the best of LDS.

All university cultures are more or less like Cal Berkeley.
