  • Finally got around to watching the video. I seriously can't believe crap like this warrants a national debate. Heaven help us.

Right. Because officers shouldn't worry about keeping use of force in check either.

Did he injure the kid? I didn't play real close attention to the story.

I was expecting something much worse than what wuap described.

                  • I'm not sure if getting two officers involved would have been more appropriate, or if it would have 'looked better'. But once that desk flipped over and he flung the student to the ground, my excessive-force meter went off.

Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

                    • Without commenting on whether I think the officer in SC should have been fired or not (I haven't watched enough video or paid enough attention to speak intelligently about it), I am wondering how many people here have ever had to physically subdue someone adolescent or older who was dead set on not being subdued. It is not an easy task. I imagine even with training it is difficult to judge how much force is necessary.

                      • I'm reminded of a fifth grade experience when a substitute teacher (Mr. Diaz, who 50+ years later is still well remembered by my classmates and I) defied the stereotype and had zero tolerance for typical substitute teacher classroom hijinx. When our most disruptive classmate, who was always in trouble, started acting up, Mr. Diaz grabbed the kid out of his desk and held him high off the ground, carried him across the room and slammed him against the door, and then said, "Mr. Yale [his totally inapt name], you will next land in the principal's office or your desk, depending on whether you're going to behave the rest of the class. What'll it be?" "My desk," he bleated meekly, while looking terrified. Mr. Diaz carried him back (Yale's feet never touched the ground throughout the ordeal) and literally threw him onto his seat, where he collapsed into a heap. He didn't make another sound the rest of the day, nor did the rest of us unless called upon. Nobody thought to report it to the authorities, as we assumed they wouldn't do anything anyway.

I disapprove of the officer's overreaction, but as Chris Rock said of O.J. and the verdict, "I don't think it was right.... but I understand."

Not sure wuap has much credibility left on this topic anymore.

Wuap is no longer a heartless conservative, but a caring liberal. He was just doing what caring people do...not hold one accountable for their actions.
