It's a silly expectation. Wishful thinking vs reasonable expectations grounded in the real world. Do you honestly think it reasonable to expect people to vote straight party ticket for a party that holds policy positions they vehemently disagree instead of selectively voting for people who aren't Trump and agree with their policy positions? Come on.

I only said it was true-- not that it was a reasonable expectation.

        Yeah, that is absurd.

Unfortunately, similar logic predicts most republican voters will vote for Trump in a general election. When the choice is binary and a voter supports most republican policies, the average republican voter will likely vote for Trump.

            • I kind of liked Vivek. For a number of reasons I wouldn't have voted for him but he certainly stood out in this field of dunces. It was nice seeing someone younger throw their hat in the ring.

Sure, this will undoubtedly be true for those that identify as Republicans in the party today. This wasn't the case in 2016. But again, the GOP is a smaller party today.

Not so. pwning libs and pretending to care about the deficit. 2 solid ones right there.

Fittingly abortion policy seems have survived the Trump GOP takeover.

Sure there is, it's called "owning the libs." In other words, saying mean things to people who don't support Trump and losing elections by alienating the voters you need.

The most robust GOP policy going strong for decades, caring about the deficit only when not in power.

You have to win over independents to win an election.

                          • Case in point: NBC/Des Moines Register poll said that 43% of the republicans who voted for Haley yesterday said they would vote for Biden over Trump in a head-to-head matchup.

Trump is a consistent loser. Has been for a long time now.

Of course, but that doesn't negate the probability that most GOP voters will still vote for Trump.
