Keep an eye on what? It’s been obvious for almost a year now that Trump was going to steam roll through the primaries.

And this non MAGA portion of the GOP? If you are voting for any member of the current GOP, still registered as a Republican, you are part of MAGA.

Look at polling data. Look at who has endorsed Trump already in the party. Look at where votes will migrate when Ron drops out.

It doesn’t matter where you drop him, moderate enclaves, super red districts, dark blue counties, his support in the party is outpacing his support in 2015.

He is basically running as an incumbent. And he pulled 51% of the vote in a conservative state. Yes, he is the overwhelming favorite to win the nomination, but he is very vulnerable in the general election.

This is a stupid line in general, but especially when we are talking about a primary election. Stop.

      • Important to note that there is a huge percentage of Republicans that will not vote for Trump in the general election. Maybe half of all registered Republicans. They may not take to the streets for Biden, but they certainly won't go out of their way to support Trump.

Pretty sure that's the point USUC was making. Still, the stakes are high, so I can't help but feel a little anxious.

Well I'm no Democrat and I certainly wouldn't speak for them, but I am highly motivated to vote for Biden this cycle. I don't understand why the GOP can't see that they have eaten shit in every single election since Trump won in 2016. This is because Trump and the MAGA sycophants have no interest in courting any voters to the left of them. The problem is that there aren't many voters as far right as he is to win him an election. He is politically idiotic.

what? Half the Republican Party won't vote for their nominee??? That's crazy talk.

more than half think that stop the steal is a real thing:

That may be a little hyperbole and maybe a lot of them will begrudgingly vote for Trump, but he isn't motivating people to turn out.

You and the MAGA folks are two sides of the same coin. You need to think in the most binary, black and white, and histrionic way to justify your good vs evil outlook.

People don't always see the world in a binary extreme. People are complex with a variety of motivations and value systems. So to expand on my statement of "keeping an eye on" this, when moderate Republicans leave the party (whether officially de-registering as a Republican or just no longer voting, participating in primaries, or identifying as one), those left over will be more MAGA naturally. As a result, the party is smaller in real numbers and is much less likely to win the general election. MAGA can beat their chest all they want about being so dominant in the party, if they can't appeal to independents or those who identified as Republicans pre 2016, they will lose.

Your silly, frankly adolescent, insistence on a purity test is no different than the MAGA purity test. Its untethered from reality. Local elections don't equally national elections. Governor Cox is not the same as Trump. Independents are independents because they pick and chose who to support between the two parties based on a number of motivations. They may vote for Biden in the general and for Cox or a fiscally conservative city councilman. Is this person MAGA?

Hard to belittle anyone with his lips fully planted on Trump's taint.

He took the opportunity to kiss trump's butt again. He clearly is all about a VP slot.

                            Yes that person is MAGA.

They are actively supporting candidates that are housed inside a political party that has been overthrown by Trump.

Why do you guys kick against the pricks? I’ve been saying the same thing for years, if you and all the rational ‘conservatives’ voted straight ticket demo for 2 cycles the Trump nightmare would be over.

Instead you all look for reasons to justify supporting a party that has an insurrectionist and felon at its head and you call me adolescent. GTFO.

You could say that about anyone running except Christie and RDS.

Can't disagree with this. Republicans have been getting their ass kicked but not enough, apparently, to make getting their ass kicked for at least one more cycle seem untenable...
