This is why we can't have nice things.

I get tired of hearing about "women's reproductive rights" when realistically that could have been handled if you'd have just told the dude if he wanted to get laid he had to use protection. Why is this not a talking point?

Were all your kids planned? I mean there's the best laid (tee hee!) plans and then there's reality. Mrs. NWC had decreed before the foundations of our marriage that we would have four kids. After the third one I was feeling pretty good about the state of our family and was riding low, hoping she'd be content with where we were at*. I don't remember what birth control we were on, but kid #4 came a year before we wanted her to.

We're all very serious and responsible about family planning in less amorous times. But all it takes is for someone to shake their money maker and you start gambling.

*kid number 4 if you're reading this I love you very much and happy you're in our family.

She sought medical attention because her very early term medically induced abortion (we're all more or less cool with that, right?) outside of Georgia (because of draconian abortion laws) didn't complete. She wasn't able to get back to North Carolina for follow-up, so we went to a Georgia hospital. And since Georgia's politicians felt morally superior to medical professionals they threw together a bullshit law that made procedures done with medical instruments tangentially related to abortion illegal, the doctors delayed the very necessary medical procedure under a cloud of potential criminality until it was too late.

What Walz said about abortion yesterday was the gospel truth. That woman's death very literally happened because Roe v. Wade was repealed. There will be more.
Abortion isn't a sticking point with me. I don't vote for candidates based on the issue and I think it takes up way too much political oxygen. Especially when this super morally complex topic is boiled down to a hyphenated label. That's the thing about the abortion debate that annoys me so much. Both sides act like they have the moral high ground without any acknowledgment of the morality on the other side. I *hate* that this woman didn't get the medical care she needed. Laws like the one in Georgia are horrific and this woman died because of it. It should be changed. But consider how a pro-life person may look at it. They view the life of the unborn child as having the same value as the woman who died. So they feel the anger you and other pro-choice advocates feel about this situation compounded by about a million.

                Well okay.

I don't know you Tick. I've only seen your posts and by the cut of your jib, I'm sure we would get along. I apologize for insinuating that you are "not the smartest guy in the world", but you put it out there and I took the bait. Your point, relative to your argument of contraception being the first talking point in the abortion argument, is....well....stupid, and could very well confirm that you are "not the smartest guy in the world."

Abortion care is more than just aborting a baby out of convenience. It's about actual healthcare. I am sorry if you are tired of it. I really am. I wish that pro-lifers and pro-choicers would use some more critical thinking skills and not think of this as a black and white issue. Abortion as a procedure is not evil, it's performed by medical professionals who are giving care to a patient. Can the procedure be used in way that is evil? Depending on my perspective absolutely! But that is only a small part of what the argument should be.

This conversation isn't helped when the loudest voices are "shout your abortion" on one side and "fetus comes before the life of the mother" on the other.

I know I'm one of the more strident pro-choice people around here, but rest assured I respect the pro-life position. I believe both the pro-life and pro-choice sides are positions of morality. It's up to everyone to weigh the relative morality of both and try to carve out a position that does the least harm to society.

expect a bunch of disapprovals from all those evangelical leaders who held their noses and supported Trump because he ended Roe v. Wade in.....well, never.
