  • I won a Titleist Vokey 60° Wedge with Spin Control at a golf tourney on Friday.

I am hoping to give it a spin this Friday.

    Nice raffle prize.

    • Since today was Mormon Vacation...ahh err Stake Conf, I chose to go golfing. Shot an 89. Feels good to break 90 again. I am still trying to recover from the craptastic rounds I put together in Utah. Pretty uneventful round. No great shots, very few bad shots. But happy with the score.

44+45 is a good score for anybody. It's crazy how a 41/40 is 8 shots better, but hardly a noticeable difference in the quality of play through the course of 18 holes. Before marriage, after mission, when I was a 5 handicap, I played in a Sat/Sun tournament and shot 75 on Saturday, and a 95 on Sunday. I've never played a Sunday round since. I'm Ok with others doing it, and I'm OK not doing it, but, I do miss a lot of good tourney's.

I've told the story of my worst round ever before. It was a Sunday. I was a freshman at BYU. My roommate and me got lots of funny looks heading down the elevator in DT with out clubs while everyone was in Sunday dress.

Played at Eastbay in Provo. Lost every ball I had in my bag. I had to buy balls from the cart girl. It was windy as hell. A nasty thunderstorm kicked up after we made the turn and because of lightning we headed into the clubhouse. Because we made the turn they wouldn't give us a rain check. I was so pissed. I haven't golfed on Sunday since. I just watch it now.

          • My scramble is tomorrow. Last year's winner was -16. 3 scratch golfers on a team will do that. Still that is ridiculous.

This tournament you don't really want to win because then you have to plan the next year's. Our goal is to beat the other teams entered from our division at work. Bragging rights are all we want.

My clubs are cleaned and I hope to get to the range early and dial in my driver. I want the long drive trophy. Closest to the pin would be nice too.

            • I hit 18 with Orangeute and a couple of other guys this past weekend. It rained for about an hour during the round, so while we got pretty drenched we also had the entire course to ourselves. This plays well into my game, as I prefer to utilize the entire course while hitting off the tees, instead of confining myself to a single fairway.

For a couple of hacks we played alright. For being a fairly big dude, Orangeute has a pretty swing. He was also killing it with his pitching wedge, nearly holing out several times from off the green.

              • We finished tied for third today at -2 under in our tournament. The winners were at -6. Last years champs didn't play. I played well for the most part. We all did. We actually were sitting at -4 under before bogeying the last two holes. The course played difficult. It was in the 40's when we teed off. The ball just didn't carry much. Then the greens were rock hard. Despite the chilly day it was a ton of fun. I didn't win anything this year in the door prizes. But my dad won a nice stand bag and a guy in our foursome won 4 free rounds so I think we'll play again this week.

                • I played a cheapo TaylorMade ball the other day, I think they cost 20 bucks for a box, I really liked it.

                  Had a nice feel.

                  • I am excited and nervous for my Vegas golf weekend. I know I am a better golfer than last year, but I feel a need to prove it. That never works out well for me. At least I won't be betting on Oregon this year, so the trip will cost much less.

Welcome to the club. Everytime I get a good stretch of scores, I start thinking the same thing. Then the golf gods bring me back to reality.

I was driving well too. But I was ready to throw my putter in the woods. In fact I nearly drove a par 4. The ball was about a yard short of the green. It plugged and rolled out about a foot away from the crater where it landed (the ground was super soft because of rain for two straight days). That's about 290 carry on this hole as it is 304 to the center of the green. That led to my lone birdie. Also thanks to the cart path, I had a drive go about 390 leaving me a PW into the green on a par 5. Missed the green. Chipped to within 4 feet. Putt rolled over the hole. Par.

                            • I notched only my second career eagle on Friday. I had a deposition in San Diego, but managed to squeeze in 9 holes at an executive course at Mission Bay before the depo. The first hole is about a 280 yard par 4. I laced a 4 iron about 210 off the tee, and then hit a perfect 60 degree wedge. The ball landed pin high about 6 feet to the right of the hole and spun side ways back into the cup.

                              • I played Saturday with Tick. I started with a double on the 1st hole par 5 and bogeyed the next 2 holes. Then I had a string of 4 pars and finished the front with a 42. Feeling good and wanting to post a low score, I started playing too cautious on the back nine. The result? I lost all my touch. I was too cautious around the greens, and my chipping went to hell as well as my putting. I think I had 3 triples, a couple doubles, a few bogeys and a par. and I posted a 51 on the back, for a 93. I am pleased that even with a fall apart round like this, I was still low 90's.
