I'm afraid this will be much too little much too late, but it's worth a shot, no?
I'm assuming the tourney is a scramble format (most are)?

1- Other than basic golf stuff (talking in backswing, walking over putting line, etc) not really. But if they offer mulligans for purchase, you'll be well liked if you buy your max (anyone from the team can use them, usually).
Also, show up about 30 mins early. Don't be the guy who is trying to get there right as you're supposed to tee off.

2- So many possible tips, but the one I would impress upon you is to not try to kill the ball. Swing fairly easy (about 80% of max) and let the club do the work. Also, putting and chipping can be helpful. Between now and Saturday, spend an hour or two at a course practicing your putting and chipping. That is one way that a casual golfer can really chip in in a scramble.

I am not an avid golfer. Sure, I enjoy it OK. But just have other things to spend time/money on, so I don't do much. Like maybe once a year with friends who golf about as much as I do.

I've been invited to participate as a guest in a tourney this weekend and would love any sound advice that can be offered in two areas:

1st - anything I should know etiquette-wise to keep from embarrassing myself?

2nd - if there is one thing to keep in mind to have any hope of hitting the ball OK now and then, what would it be?

      1. Don't step in anybodies line and pay off your bets.

      2. No

        Probably a better answer.

Along those same lines, I've been in a tournament before where they allowed you to buy inches that you could then use to count puts as good. If your team wants to win (or even just not come in last), I would buy the max.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I would listen to Donut. His advice brought me from the 30+ hanicap to a 20+ handicap by telling me to strike the ball instead of sweeping the ball. Thanks Donut!
( FYI I most likely wrote that incoherently and will be properly corrected forthwith. Thanks)

You could just lie like most people do in tourneys.

Yes. Trying to maybe play again tomorrow morning at the same first tee time, as of yet that plan is not receiving favorable response from ldc. The night is young though.

With the inches, you can lie much easier.

I'm stoked for you, dude. A few months ago (maybe longer?) it seemed like you were on the verge of giving up. Any idea what got you over the hump?

                    • Since I broke my driver and am too cheap to replace it, I've been hitting my 3 wood pretty well. I think. Is 265 good distance on a 3 wood? Doesn't really matter anyway. I played 8 over yesterday, but I only got through 6 holes before my wife demanded we go home. The course was incredibly slow. That's what I get for going in the evening, and taking my wife with me.

                        Uh, yeah... that's pretty good.

That depends on are you getting 265 when you hold it with your diamond studded golf glove or your 16-inch penis?

Not well, looking like a no go.

                              • Golf Report Wednesday June 20, 2012 (Men's Club Rules)

                                42+46=88

Zero Birds, 5 Pars, 10 Bogies, 3 DBogies

I had more fun than the card shows. Score won't count towards anything, so I guess it's just a wash. The double bogies were from hooks out of bounds. I guess I got a little snap happy today. My provisional shots were fantastic, and I got pars on the balls. I missed 3 birdies from less than 10 feet. Putting was hot and cold, as I had 4 three putts, but also made a couple of ten footers as well. I've got no complaints - I had fun, hit some good shots, and had more bad shots than usual.

Shots of the day were a drive and 3 wood pin high of the par 5 15th. Chipped, and then missed a 6 foot bird.

Played today with the 84 year old Chairman Emeritus of the Club. He shot an 85. He's been a dues paying member of the club since 1956, and is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He was very good in his day, and shoots his age. I hope I can do that someday.
