  • Putting is the bane of golf for anyone over 40. If you're as old as 71 - forget about it. That said, you still have to putt, and I've been rocking the following belly putter components this year. Overall I'm happy, but I still have those days where you just cry for getting older.

    Taylormade Rossa Balero (clone)
True Temper Double Bend - Mid Length Putter Shaft
    Ping Putter Grip

The Original Taylormade Putter like the above is $199. I bought the above assembled and shipped for $59

I was thinking of getting a Ping Craz-e and it looks similar to yours. I just couldn't figure out what, if anything, all that jazz on the side actually does.

      • I am loving my new putter (http://www.scottycameron.com/putters...el.aspx?id=410). I tried the Kombi mid length putter, but just never got comfortable with it. I am much more confident with the Newport, specially my mid length putts.

        • If you live in Alpine/Highland area and are in the 7th ward I just golfed with a guy that was recently released from your bishopric. His name was Mark or Mike or Dave something like that. He sells software to newspapers, I made a joke about how that must be a great business to be in since newspapers are doing so well. Then he says "Let me introduce my playing partner, who is a member and brought me with him today" say hello to the guy that owns the local newspaper.

It didn't get any better conversation or golf wise from there. Unless you include when my super tactful FiL tells newspaper guy that we used to do about $40,000 of advertising in his paper every year but Craigslist is so much better. Yeah it was a fun afternoon.

My dad uses that same putter. I thought the long alignment aid was distracting so I opted for the mini which I love.

            • Just got home from the range.

You would have thought I'd never played before, or just took up the game last week. My back seized up, and I could hardly put the club on the ball, but rather than walk away, I hit about 60 bad balls so that I could get more proficient at being bad. It was awful. Am going to club play tomorrow, let's hope I can keep it under 90.

Pretty much how my day went. After posting 55 on the front nine I turned the rest of the round into practice.

Your struggles are not comforting to me. I would rather be playing in the seventies like you have done instead of you coming to my level. Even though I am posting more time in the 90's than the 80's, I still have hope.

                  Yep, I predict a 78 tomorrow.

Teeing off at noon pst. Took two Aleve at betime, woke up feeling better, and did a half hour massage on the Homemedics 360H, feeling loosy goosy right now. Going to take two Aleve an hour before golf, along with a "Hills" burger. The sun in shining with no rain in the forecast, and I got a new Van Huesen Forest Green shirt, for 70% off yesterday at the Outlet Mall in Woodburn, so I should be ready to roll. Let's shock the world and throw down some 78's today.

Apparently, I've nothing to do before golf.

                    • Golf Report Wednesday, June 27, 2012

                      41+39=80

                      1 bird, 9 pars, 7 bogies, 1 Dbogie.

Played decent, could have made another 2 birdies, and could have made a couple of easy par putts as well. It really comes down to putting for me. A good putter shooting the same tee to green would have easy had a 5 stroke improvement. The double bogie was a 210 yard par 3 on in two, and side hill three putt.

Shot of the day - a 7 iron into a 151 yard par 3. Beautiful trap draw over the bunker to a hidden pin. Left with a 8 foot birdie, that looked good, but missed high. My iron play is doing really well, and lately I'm hitting 2/3 shots a round that make me happy to be alive.

In the men's club, pairings are random, but somehow I must have made someone mad in the pro shop, as I was matched with the worst partners. Guy #1 was an octogenarian, who had too much to drink. He was a legit 36 handicap, and really slowed things down. (took 4:45 to play). He was such a bad putter that the wooden headed putter he used was made a mute point. Guy #2 is an attorney, and he fact checked every bit of data. He would mark and line aim a 1 foot putt. He was constantly talking about "how to navigate a course" properly. Did I mention he shot a 103? Fact check this.... You're slow." Guy # 3 borrowed his persona from Jesse Ventura. On the 18th hole he hit a ball into the water, and asked if I had an extra ball. Wanting to speed play I pulled my provisional from my pocket, a Pro V1x, and he promptly hits it into the water too. $4 flashes before my eyes, and a debate within myself ensues whether to ask for compensation, or to let it slide. I decide to take the high road and don't say a thing. After the round he gives me a Noodle as a way of making amends. "Oh - Thanks I say..."

The best part of the day? I'm not the worst putter in the world. There are at least 3 guys worse than me.

Nice, I didn't come near that close, 94. The shanks have now moved from chipping to the fairway.

                        • 43-41 for a 84. Sure it isn't in the 70's, but I am elated. 3 double bogeys, but none due to chipping. As a matter of fact I got up and down three times.

I have been bugged by this so much and had so many suggestions I have been telling people to get away from me and golf hasn't been fun.

Today while practicing and shanking every shot and old guy, yea older than me, came up and started to make a suggestion. I politely told him to go away I don't want another suggestion. He persisted and I got nasty and told him to get the f away from me. As he walked away he said, your moving your lower body.

I focused on not moving the lower body and voila.

I made a major apology to him in front of everyone.

I like having a stand but truthfully I rarely walk anymore, so cart bag would be fine. Stand is nice for the range, though.

I saw this guy with a cool Bag Boy revolving cart bag, looked pretty handy.
