I suspect that at BYU it's like it is at most schools - the standards are more sliding-scale than either-or. If you're just that good on the field, they'll let you in regardless of your academic cred or the likelihood that you'll abide by the HC. If you're nothing spectacular, they're not going to bend over backwards to lower their standards for you.

Well, I know about a couple of preferred walk-ons that got in only because they were a preferred walk-on. Their applications would have been thrown away when the the intern in admissions office took a first glance at their transcripts if they weren't going to play football. If they are going to do it for walk-ons then I would think they would do it for anyone that they wanted to offer a scholarship to.

1. He couldn't meet BYU's academic standards.

2. He's not a BYU kid (i.e., won't live the Honor Code, which you guys hate with a passion when it costs you a Brandon Davies but which you wave like a flag when you lose a recruit head-to-head to Utah).

3. We didn't want him anyway.

Completely agree, especially since he probably doesn't want to follow the honor code.

You all need to learn to take a little ribbing. Within 2 posts after BoylenOver posted the rumor about the possible change of heart, the first 2 standard responses were given:

1. BYU didn't want him anyway, even if they did offer him a scholie.

Lindsay is only worth it to get Hinds.

2. His grades are the problem.

Lindsay's grades won't be good enough for BYU.

Then at the 7th post, Coach supplied the last part of the trifecta:

3. He's not a BYU kid.
