Definitely more than that. But I'm not surprised the Idaho St. game is going for $7.99. ha.

    • Little article on The Hoff. I didn't know he wasn't LDS.

I can't believe his only other offer was Sac. State. It shows the frailties of the recruiting reporting and rankings I like following so much.

        • Who will supply the referees for BYU home games? Will it always be a "neutral" crew (i.e. Big 12 or MWC)?

I believe they are contracting with the same pool that has been doing Big12/MWC games the past few years.

I think the small-town guys aren't as economical for recruiting services or coaches to track. Competition level usually adds a question mark, too. In Hoffman's case, I'm not sure his entire county has even 30,000 people living there. The only reason BYU got wind of him was because his high school coach was Bronco's roommate at Oregon State.

Fun article but it cracks me up that a town has decided to bestow its highest honors on a 20 year old kid who was the 2nd leading pass catcher on 7-6 football team last year. Maybe reserve it for after he's been all-MWC or something? Or is 3/4 of his way through a solid career?

Either way, awesome and love having the Hoff. Love having HoffPo even better.

Yeah I guess Crescent City is remote enough that scouts just don't get there much.

                • From GMan:

Coach Howell commented quite a bit on Joe Sampson and what he expects from him...says that he'll be looked at as a safety and CB
some, including myself, felt that Sampson's limited time would almost assuredly preclude him from serious competition at either S spot
Howell emphatically disagreed with that..said by his film and through conversations that Sampson showed very good football sense and smarts
Howell feels that he's someone that understands concepts and expects him to make a serious bid for either S spot, but most likely at SS

"Playing for a national championship," said running back J.J. Di Luigi. "That's all that's in our minds. If we can't win a BCS game or a national championship, then what's the point of going independent?"
Yikes. And he is right, of course.

Really - what else is there to play for? No conference championship...there aren't even conference honors for individual players.

I would hate to have them come out and say "We think we can win about 80% of our games this year. That's our goal - to only lose 2-3 games."

I could live with a goal of improving on last season. But I wouldn't place a ceiling on it..."We won 7 games last year. To show improvement, this year our goal is to win 8 or more." Again, I would be disappointed.

It doesn't even bother me to have someone like Bronco say that he expects the program to be playing for a national championship - I think the goal of the program should be to get to that point. It might make me cringe if he said something about expecting a certain team one year to be in the NC game, because they were just that good. But I differentiate that from saying that the program's goal is to get there - or even that the teams goal is to get there.

Of course - I understand that when you have big goals and you make them known, you do set yourself up for some ridicule when you don't reach them.

I'm OK with that. I'd rather have big goals and not reach them every year than have a goal of going 10-3 and reaching it every year.

His brother said on CB that he's got two classes to pass that he's taking right now. According to him, Phillips should be good to go for fall camp.

That's good to hear. The paper this morning sounded less optimistic, but obviously his bro is in a better position to know.

Kori Gaines won't be playing next year, either. He also lost his scholarship for the year and has to pay his own way. The quote from Bronco is that he wants Gaines to "value getting his education paid for."

This has been known for a while, hasn't it? IDK, when I read it this morning I was already aware of it.
