I recently saw where although Jake was more polished at an early stage, that Tanner might have more upside. It'll be fun to see how far he shoots up the rankings in the next couple months. He went from 50 to 19 on ESPN recently and is sure to be in the top 10 on all 4 major sites soon.

Has this already been posted. The new t shirt this season is Rise Up.
If BYU starts the season with wins at Ole Miss and UT, I will definitely start to "rise up"

RiseUp isn't gimmicky enough to make fun of.
One of those players looked like he was cgi created. Also, the commercial would have been better had it started out with "as a Phoenix rises from its ashes; the byu cougars rise up" or something like that.

It would be a smart move by BYU to broadcast them. I also think that there is nothing right now that can stop them.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View Post
I do think that when all and said and done, the N C Double Assholes will consider this a recruiting violation. It won't be because of BYU but it will be because of Texas. Texas recruits against the best of the best in college football. Their will be many big name programs up in arms over the LongHorn network broadcasting High School football games and when all is said and, the N C Double Assholes will make it a recruiting violation."Take it to the Bank"

I agree. If you notice in the article, nobody could articulate a cogent reason why it should be against the rules, hence the lame "common sense" argument. AFAIK, currently it is kosher to put those games on the air.Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostIt would be a smart move by BYU to broadcast them. Probably won't have the same impact as the Longhorn network, but it would definitely be a bonus for BYU as it goes head to head with Utah inside the state borders. I also think that there is a significant number of football fanatics that want early access to these recruits and will watch the HS games. HS games in Hi-def....imagine that. Of course, Mater Dei has been doing this already for a few seasons, but then again, they have the cash to do it on their own.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I think the argument from other teams is that it will create an unfair recruiting advantage. That being said, I think it should be o.k. to do. Teams are always trying to build new facilities to help recruiting. Sometimes it is a locker room or an indoor practice facility, why not have it a network to broadcast recruits games? I would consider this a way that a school can create a legal advantage.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostI agree. Like I said, when all is said and done I think it will be banned by the NCAA. Look a the stir that the Longhorn network has already caused and I believe they have said they won't do it this upcoming season."Take it to the Bank"

Mater Dei has more money running through there program than I thought. I knew they were "big-time" but I didn't know they were that "big-time".Originally posted by TripletDaddy View Post

Back in OC, the Mater Dei games looked better on TV than the BYU games on the mtn.Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostMater Dei has more money running through there program than I thought. I knew they were "big-time" but I didn't know they were that "big-time".

You can pick up Monarch games in OC and LA plus parts of SD County, I believe. Local public access type channel. but still...HD for HS....not bad.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Couldn't utah just counter by broadcasting games on kued? Here in michigan the local public access (PBS) shows all the high school games in the area. The high school my kids will most likely go to runs the spread always in shotgunOriginally posted by TripletDaddy View PostI agree. Looks like the NCAA has summons Texas and BYU to talk about their TV networks...
The NCAA is preparing to address the storm that has arisen over Texas' new 24-hour sports network, summoning school officials -- and others with similar ventures and plans -- to Indianapolis next month.
In a letter Monday to Texas athletics director DeLoss Dodds, NCAA vice president Kevin Lennon asked the school to participate in an Aug. 22 "educational summit" on school and conference network telecasts of youth sports. Dodds shared the letter at the Big 12 media days.
In a statement issued later Monday, the NCAA said the other parties will include members of the National Federation of State High School Associations and broadcasting experts.
"This event is a continuation of the ongoing dialogue and review we have been engaged in with our members as they have created conference- and institutional-branded networks," Lennon said in a statement. "Current network arrangements differ significantly in many ways, including issues of ownership and control, and we are committed to engaging in a comprehensive review to ensure that all member institutions are treated appropriately."
Controversy has arisen in the Big 12 Conference over plans by the new ESPN-owned Longhorn Network to carry high school football games that could feature Texas recruits, potentially lending coach Mack Brown's program a recruiting boost. The league has put that plan on hold pending further study. Among other things, it's uncertain how the high school telecasts on a Texas-centric network would conform with NCAA rules or whether new rules would have to be drafted and applied.
That will be the apparent focus of the NCAA meeting next month. Dodds said it also would include officials from Brigham Young and the Big Ten Conference, which similarly have set up their own networks, and others with designs on their network.
"It's a new world," Dodds said Monday during the Big 12's annual football season preview. "They've got to face it somewhere, sometime, somehow.""If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
"I honestly believe saying someone is a smart lawyer is damning with faint praise. The smartest people become engineers and scientists." -SU.
"Yet I still see wisdom in that which Uncle Ted posts." -creek.
