  • First commit from Jr. day.

PROVO — Commitments are a part of most junior days, and BYU received one from Austin Hoyt, a 6-foot-7, 240-pound offensive lineman from Argonaut High in Jackson, Calif.

"I love BYU, and knew that if they offered me, that I'd commit immediately," said Hoyt. "I love everything about their school. Just being there today, you could really feel a great spirit. BYU is the only place that has that feeling for me."

Hoyt had received offers from such schools as Air Force and Utah, and was receiving a lot of attention from Pac-12 programs. He was being recruited as both an offensive lineman and defensive end.

The way these things work is that the other team(s) never offered.

        • TaloTBS (and Gurney a couple hours later) has reported 4 commitments at junior day. Hoyt, Brayden Kearsley, Phillip Amone, and another that hasn't been named. Anyone know anything about these guys?

            • Kearsley is a 2013 recruit. If we're jumping on him this early he must be good.

Also sounds like we offered a RB out of Fontana, CA.

              • Just read that Dupaix has been recruiting Wolford and Amone since he was at Navy. Kind of interesting.

Are you referring to that Geography wiz doing the interview who asked whether the Tongan island is part of Samoa?

"He was second on the team in tackles with 128. Good friend and fellow linebacker Darryl Monroe had 134 tackles. Monroe is now at Washington State, which, Amone said, is only about an hour drive from Provo."

I think he was referring to the one hour by car trip to Washington State. Or maybe BYU told this kid that Utah will be the new WSU of the PAC 12 and got confused.

                              • I'll look again, but I thought Gurney said Fanaika committed on twitter.

Edit: he just confirmed that he was officially offered.
