I don't think there's any way he makes it at BYU unless a chaste, beautiful cheerleader is able to keep him in Provo.Originally posted by Joe Public View PostKori Gaines won't be playing next year, either. He also lost his scholarship for the year and has to pay his own way. The quote from Bronco is that he wants Gaines to "value getting his education paid for."Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

My brother was in town this week and I took him down to BYU campus for his first trip there in about 25 years. We went to Legacy Hall to see the Cougar sports exhibits. He's kind of a nosy bastard and while we were up on the third floor, he tried the door on the big conference room up there and found it to be open. We walked through there and out onto the balcony overlooking the practice field and watched a couple groups of QBs, RBs and WRs work out for an hour or so. The surprise to me was how good James Lark looked. Very very sharp on all his passes. Jake looked fabulous - not surprising. For a good part of while he was out there, Hoff tried to catch everything one handed - and he got most of them. Jacobson looked really good as well. DiLuigi looked as good as one can look catching 5 yard flare routes. OTOH, Riley Nelson couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. He missed everything - without defenders and without a pass rush. Why he'd take a single snap in practice over Lark is a mystery to me. I'd have McKay teach Riley how to run routes, cross him over to play in the slot, and use him as a receiver as well as a constant trick-play threat. He does throw pretty well for a receiver...
Now I REALLY want football season to start...

I fully expect Lark to be our #2 QB starting at the end of fall camp. He is extremely athletic and a very good passer.Originally posted by statman View PostMy brother was in town this week and I took him down to BYU campus for his first trip there in about 25 years. Last night I was out in the garage organizing stuff. We live not very far from a large park down the way. Apparently band camp has started for the local HS because there were 50-100 little band people tuning up and practicing. It was a very disorganized noise.
At one point, the band director must have taken charge because the disorganized noise shifted to a nice drum line cadence that went on for almost 10 minutes.
Hearing that cadence got my pistons firing. The sounds of game day...it is almost time for college football

Riley will be the backup and play some wildcat type of stuff for a change of pace. However, Riley being the backup is probably not dependent on Jake Heaps staying healthy. Should Jake go down, I still think Riley would be the backup.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostI fully expect Lark to be our #2 QB starting at the end of fall camp. I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

One of my favorite experiences is walking toward a football stadium on a fall afternoon and hearing a drumline banging out a lively cadence. Something very primal about that, but after all these years, it still gets me going. Can't wait until September.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostLast night I was out in the garage organizing stuff. We live not very far from a large park down the way. My favorite experiences involve getting to the stadium 60 minutes before kickoff. At BYU this means less than 5,000 people in the stadium and for me is honestly a little slice of heaven. Sitting in the stadium before kickoff is one of the most calming things for me anywhere. The feeling of the sun, or a cool breeze, the smell of grass and players going through warmups either kicking balls or running routes, or stretching out it feels like there is nothing else going on in the world that matters. It's probably me holding on to old memories, but it takes me back to feeling the butterflies before kickoff that lasted until you got your first hit out of the way. I love the times where I can stand next to my dad and stare down at the field and just let the silence speak the words that strengthen our bond. I love that I am able to share that with my boys now as well.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostOne of my favorite experiences is walking toward a football stadium on a fall afternoon and hearing a drumline banging out a lively cadence. September can't get here soon enough.

When I was on my mission my dad sent me an audio tape he had done at a BYU v. Utah game. He had the bands playing their respective fight songs, sounds from the crowd, etc. That tape also had snippets of him and my little brother at Camden Yards and Yankee Stadium. Trunkiest tape ever. I pretty much wanted to go home right that minute.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostOne of my favorite experiences is walking toward a football stadium on a fall afternoon and hearing a drumline banging out a lively cadence. Maybe somebody posted this but I missed it. BYU's Blue Ribbon Preview came out and it reads like someone from CB wrote it. It was overwhelmingly positive. It made me want to drink the kool-aid. Shoot, I'll admit it I took a sip.
Here's the closing analysis:
http://insider.espn.go.com/college-f...s-2011-preview
With a schedule that pits them against several power-conference teams, and plenty of exposure provided by new partner ESPN, the Cougars believe that they can make a run at a BCS bowl game this season. They might be right. On offense, they have a potential star at quarterback in Heaps, who'll be protected by perhaps the best left tackle-left guard combination in the country. On defense, the defensive line and linebacker corps are stout enough to mask whatever deficiencies BYU has at defensive back.
The schedule is tough at the beginning but eases up at the end. If the Cougars can get by Ole Miss, Texas and Utah, they might have a shot at a BCS game."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Came out on Wednesday and I was so shocked with the positivity that I couldn't link it. It was a giant fluff piece and I had never, ever read something so positive from a major media source on the Y.
