All legal issues aside, that's hilarious.Originally posted by WashingtonCoug View PostMy roommates would sneak into girls apartments during church and cook themselves lunch using the girls food. I know that one time they cooked steak mashed potatoes and salad. They would clean the dishes and have everything back in order by the time church ended. There were a lot of pissed off girls in the ward thinking that another girl at her food.

I did, in college. Actually , frosh year it was a "no studying on any day" rule.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostSeriously? I knew lots of people in my student wards that held that rule. It was a parade of piety every Sunday....people refusing to study, people refusing to watch TV, people refusing to listen to music. Not everyone, of course, but there were plenty.
I generally didn't study on Sundays, either. Of course, I tried to avoid studying on Friday and Saturday, too. I covered all Sabbath bases, just in case Mormonism doesnt turn out to be the correct answer.
I tossed the sunday rule out the window in law school though.
My current stake is very vocal about a stake wide no tv on Sunday rule. This is a leftover from the stake we split off of. I admit that I sometimes observe this rule, but only because I'm out on a 3+ hour run instead and don't have time to watch tv.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

I don't understand. Your stake has a rule?? I have more questions: Are there more rules? Who made the rules? What happens if you dont obey the rules? Did the wards vote on the rules? How does a new rule get made and implemented?Originally posted by nikuman View PostI did, in college. Actually , frosh year it was a "no studying on any day" rule.

Oh you know how it works. It is like all those districts in the MTC that decided they would SYL 100% of the time. Not a real rule, but just think of the BLESSINGS! so it gets adopted as one.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostI don't understand. Your stake has a rule?? Btw, my MTC district was 100% SYL and it was in fact a real blessing because the most annoying people also had the worst language skills and as a result we rarely had to hear them, and when we did it was usually as amusing as annoying to hear, unlike in English. Win-win!PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Wow.Originally posted by nikuman View PostMy current stake is very vocal about a stake wide no tv on Sunday rule. This is a leftover from the stake we split off of.One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

Why would the stake even need this rule? Why would anyone ever dare to profane the Sabbath by turning on a television?Originally posted by nikuman View PostMy current stake is very vocal about a stake wide no tv on Sunday rule."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

No, really. But I don't go around querying people about their Sunday study habits. I was more responding to Ted who claimed it gave him an advantage. That implies that the vast majority don't study on Sunday. I didn't know anyone with that rule and I don't recall that even being a point of discussion when I was at BYU. But I forget a lot of things at this point in my life, so who knows?Originally posted by YOhio View PostEver? Unlikely.

What? In mormonism? That's unheard of, especially in the Utah brand of mormonism. It's just not done.
