More like Victorian black and white.
In 1900 at the Paris Olympics, several American athletes created quite a stir when they refused to compete on Sunday -- and most Americans back home supported them in this decision. Other countries thought the whole thing was silly.
American culture has obviously changed since then.Col. Klink: "Staff officers are so clever."

Holy Hanna... this thread is still alive!!! And gone religious... I guess it's typical on a deathbed to think about the hereafter.

It's hard to respond to everybody on the iPhone so I'll just respond to this. It went something like this:Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostI don't understand. Your stake has a rule?? I have more questions: Are there more rules? Who made the rules? What happens if you dont obey the rules? Did the wards vote on the rules? How does a new rule get made and implemented?
Stake President: We, as X stake, don't watch TV on the Sabbath (preached in stake conference).
Stake President: Bishops, remind your congregations that we shouldn't watch TV on the sabbath for x and y reasons in this stake (given in stake training).
Bishops: I want to you all to remember the stake president, our leader called of God with the ability to receive revelation for the stake, has told us not to watch tv on Sunday, and we will be blessed for obeying the commandments of the Lord (in sacrament meeting).
EQ president: bretheren, a reminder about television on the sabbath (in EQ meeting).
Random members, usually sisters: We're so grateful for the leadership o our stake president who helps us keep our homes pure by instructing us not to watch television on Sunday. We are strict implementers of this in my home and we have seen many blessings from it. I will decline to name any because there are so many. Well, maybe I will name one: our power bill is now 1% smaller each month. Also, we don't have to worry about smut like vampire sexy shows distracting us from what is truly important, which is talking about movies bases on vampire books as a family, cuz you know those were written by not just any mormon but a BYU grad, which totally makes up for the substandard plot and writing because they are holy, sort of like the work and the glory. (talks in sacrament meeting, or maybe a testimony).
A couple of the rest of us: What in the name of Philo T. Farnsworth is wrong with you people? (usually said between mouths of popcorn while watching a Disney flick on Sunday with the family, right after watching an NFL game maybe).
You get the point. The stake president of the current stake was a counselor in the old stake from which we split, which is the only thing that makes this relevant.
Edit: Green Monstah, you are safe. Your stake is not involved. Yet.Last edited by Pheidippides; 11-30-2011, 01:04 PM.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

It's only okay to watch smut on weekdays and not on Sunday.
Seriously, if you are going to be careful about what you watch on Sunday -- even going to the extreme of not watching TV at all -- shouldn't you be just as careful the rest of the week?Col. Klink: "Staff officers are so clever."

Well, you should refrain from thinking too much about it along these lines, since the thinking has already been done on this by that guy that was called of god. And you probably don't need to know the answer for your salvation, just that doing as the SP counsels will.Originally posted by Flattop View PostIt's only okay to watch smut on weekdays and not on Sunday.

Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

Dude it's people like you who need to speak up. This accomplishes two important things:Originally posted by nikuman View PostI keep waiting for that shoe to drop. It will be greeted in the same fashion.

1. You become a folk hero to the like-minded within your stake.
2. You become virtually assured that you will never have to have an upper level calling.
Any way you slice it I call it a win.
