But thats not what he's doing. The letter doesnt even come close to supporting the scenario you are putting forth.Originally posted by SeattleUte View Post

Why would you argue with people that want BYU in? Also how did you push your chips in?Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostI was arguing with some UH fans on Twitter and one dude claims the Cougs and Coogs are working together to ensure 11-12 is an all-Cougar affair. Mormons do persecution complex really good. It doesn't hurt that there's been some actual persecution in that past to keep it alive.
If that's the reason BYU is excluded, they'll just dig in their heals. In the LDS community, change and progress takes time. There's been some progress made already. Sure, it's been slow. But it's trending the direction the folks who are upset want it to head. If they turn it into a fight, that's just going to slow the progress.
I'm guessing the only 2 ways things change in the honor code is if it's required by law, or via time and discussion.

Students listen? Why do you think Ernie Wilkinson put in the honor code and it is sustained even today. Because they know 18-24 year olds that are in college can't be trusted to think correctly. They think emotionally.Originally posted by Sleeping in EQ View PostThoughtful and mature. If only the students would listen.
This of course is a generalization. I am not talking about the 18-24 year olds who belong to posters on here.

Wilkinson put in the current version of the HC because he was scared of hippy culture coming to BYU.Originally posted by byu71 View PostStudents listen? My favorite Wilkinson story as told by Paul James was how he knew nothing about sports and when he heard once that the football team had a game where they got a lot of penalties he called Coach Hudspeth into his office to explain why the team was playing dirty. I'm sure LA Ute was the bug in his ear. Coach Hudspeth then had a tough time explaining how things like "illegal motion" and "offsides" didn't mean they were playing dirty.
My second favorite is the story that came out in the Utah US Senate race in 1992. Joe Cannon was running for Senate. He was thought to be the overwhelming favorite until Bob Bennett decided to spend tons of money in TV ads. I believe at the time it became the most expensive political primary campaign in Utah history. Bennett closed the gap in the polls. Then I think around the last week or two before the election a story came out in the local media about how Cannon used marijuana while a student at BYU. It seemed to possibly be the thing was just enough to push Bennett to the victory.
The story came out because the source for the story was one of Cannon's fellow students who stated that he once persuaded Cannon to use marijuana. The funny thing was that this guy at the time was actually a paid student informant whose job was to go around catching other students breaking the HC. I believe it's still unclear how he actually got the marijuana. But apparently he thought it was his job to get others to break the rules so he could report them.Last edited by BlueK; 09-09-2016, 01:30 PM.
