Let's say the Big 10 does eventually go to 16 schools (didn't that rumor start this whole thing?), how does the Pac-12? respond? The conference is hemmed in. If this very public attempt to get Texas +4 into the conference fails, I doubt it can easily go back there. If Beebe is any kind of a commissioner, he moves to box in the Pac-12? in the future, and even encroaches on its territory.
      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

        LOL.

Stick around Gracie. Experience tells us that it will be several more ups and downs before your true batting average is confirmed.

Could be. This Scott guy may have swung for the fences and whiffed. He should have stuck with his original more modest plan of adding CU and Utah, which was brilliant. Then he could simply declare victory.

            • This thing has ESPN contradicting itself.

              ESPN Insider Rumor Central:

              Texas staying put

Chip Brown is at it again. The columnist for Orangebloods.com (which no doubt has seen its traffic jump exponentially over the past week) is reporting that Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe has convinced the Longhorns to hang around.

The Texas regents are supposed to meet Tuesday to make a decision, but Brown says officials could announce Monday that their school is not heading for the Pac-10 (11). Money is the key and sources are saying Beebe assured schools a television deal paying the remaining 10 members in the neighborhood of $14-17 million. And that schools would be able to explore their own distribution platforms, including their own networks.

In the Pac-10 power player Texas wouldn't have that option with a conference network planning to launch in 2012, which would require schools to turn over all inventory.

This also could mean that Texas A&M, which is widely reported to favor a move to the SEC, may reconsider so as to keep its conference -- and long-time rivalry -- intact.
First story under Headlines on the College Football page:

              Sources: Departure to Pac-10 coming

The departure of Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to the Pac-10 is imminent, four sources within the Big 12 said Monday.

One source said commissioner Dan Beebe's last-minute plan to save the conference has "zero" chance to succeed. Another source said it is "very unlikely" to succeed.

Texas' interests in being aligned with the research opportunities and academic missions of Pac-10 schools is driving the decision, along with money.

Beebe's last-ditch plan included an emotional plea about preserving rivalries and maintaining the best welfare of the student-athlete, one source said.

Texas A&M is now most likely to join the SEC, a source within the Big 12 said. This move, in the wake of Colorado and Nebraska's departure, would further diminish the chance of Beebe's plan succeeding, one source said.

Texas' decision is expected to come no later than Tuesday. One source familiar with Texas' plans suggested a hearing on Wednesday at the Texas House of Representatives is "a nonfactor."

Now the plan looks pathetic; like the Big 12 is glad Colorado is gone and Utah would say yes to anybody. Pretty much embarrassing for all parties involved.

Whoa. ESPN just took down Chip Brown's Rumor Central report. It no longer exists. I guess they are committed to the Big 4 to the Pac 10 reporting.

We may finally be moving on to the Kansas vs. Utah debate.

Silly Kansas, they don't even know that Utah already has an invitation in hand.

I agree. Like the rollercoaster this has been to follow, the AD's reps here have also been up and down. Beebe was incompetent a few days ago and was being ripped by everyone. Scott looked like this genius all of a sudden. And now those roles are being reversed. Delany is really the only one that has maintained his asshole, evil genius rep. I do like that he has snubbed Mizzou. That makes me laugh.

OK, now they've come back with an updated rumor backing Joe Schad's "Texas +3 to the Pac-10" report. They do note Chip Brown's report without comment. This was interesting:

Schad also reported that Texas A&M is most likely heading to the SEC. The moves would leave the Big 12 in ruins, and presumably both the SEC and Pac-10 would now each be looking to add one more school to even up their membership.
Who does the SEC go after? Kansas? I wonder if that would motivate the Pac-15 to add Kansas to cut off the SEC?

I think I believe UT still isn't completely on board with going with the Pac-10+6 and maybe he is looking over Dan Beebe Big 12 financial projections to make sure the numbers add up. I would consider where Scott's jet goes next and the color its contrail to be a sign of what is going on.

The manager at the Hertz office in Austin's Bergstrom International Airport has tweeted that he rented a Ford Focus to Larry scott early this morning. It is reported that he made sure the rental contract included unlimited miles. Take it for what it's worth.
