The PAC 10 expansion groundswell

Today's weather report suggests that the PAC10 might survive. If I were in the Larry Scott Position of Great Genius, I would (A) stand pat at 10 and play a full round robin 9-game schedule AND (B) have the champs of the Pac-12 and the ACC play in a Snoop-Biggie/West Coast, East Coast prize fight.

Odds are you are only getting one team into the playoffs from the two conferences anyway, so why not make it official! Plus, the SHOWDOWN could be a real money maker in its own right. The only real downside is if the ACC and PAC10 have two legit playoff contenders (say, Clemson and Utah) and then one loses the SHOWDOWN (say, Clemson). But I doubt the ACC and the PAC have 2 of the best 4 teams in the country any time soon.

BYU and the BIG XII might not like it, but there doesn't seem to be much consideration of others going into these decisions.

A team not in the Big10 or SEC is going to have to go undefeated to get into the playoff. Not only that, they will maybe even still be left out unless it’s Clemson. A one or two loss tOSU or Alabama or LSU or Michigan gets in over them every year because they play in better conferences. I’d not like it but I also don’t make the rules.

I like it, but instead of Rice they should snag Texas Tech just to steal one of the top Big XII travel destinations.

I don't want to understate the charm of Lubbock but why not steal Kansas St. instead of Rice or Texas Tech? Keep the Kansas schools together and have the travel destination of Manhattan. Who does not want to spend a weekend in Manhattan?

I thought of that but have you seen all the crime occurring in Manhattan on FoxNews? No thanks, we prefer well-coifed suburban paradises (Palo Alto, greater PHX, etc) over the prospect of urban hellholes (Manhattan, LA, etc).

On an absurdity scale, USC and UCLA as the only western Big 10 schools tops a Pac 10-ACC merger. The Pac 10 and ACC institutions share basic values. And there could be three divisions in which more geographically compact teams play each other more often, with occasional cross-over like NL-AL in MLB. Yes, it's highly absurd, but not as absurd as UCLA and USC all by themselves in the Big 10. That will never cease to make me laugh.

Nope. We're only adding AAU schools. Maybe everyone pitches in to help Cal Tech start football and basketball (and women's per Title IX)? A loaner. Cal Tech has more money than God but not for football. That would recover the So Cal market.

Good news... Fresno State, Boise St. and SMU have offered to help shore up the Pac 12!

You know the Pac 12 from 2016-2021 is just 29-21 vs the MWC. There are some good quality schools there that are worth considering. Being an AAU school is not everything. Besides you are hurting OSU's and WSU's feelings with such talk.

Whether Utah joins the big12 or stays in the pac, they are screwed in comparison to where they were. They are going to have to make revenue concessions to keep UW and OU in the conference, so they’ll be screwed again.

You think so? Maybe the concession will be an easier (less expensive) exit for any members should better conference affiliation come along. Or a shorter grant of rights (4-5 years).

Navigate, a sports and entertainment consultant group, stated in March that members of a 12-team Big 12 would earn $52 million by 2029.

All my SMU friends are saying their team is going to be in the new PAC:

"If Pac-12 doesn't merge with ACC, SMU is one of a select few expansion candidates"

SMU is a prefect fit for the PAC.... Nobody goes to their football games as well. Cal and Stanford may not like to visit Dallas, however:

SMU carries the obvious religious affiliation and is neither a member of the AAU or an R1 research school.

Also, this is the worst possible time to welcome Texas politics into the conference given developments following the Roe vs. Wade ruling.
