I still have a bit of optimism. I was holding out hope for a BYU invite to the new Big XII, but if the MWC ends up with Kansas, Missouri, KSU, and Iowa State well, it seems to me it isn't the end of the world.

I'm not sure if you're joking here, but this ain't a bad football conference, and there are enough school with recent big success that they really can't be ignored by the BCS/playoff/whatever comes out of this without looking like they're shamelessly chasing money and ignoring football. And for all of DDD's claims that the BCS is all about money and can ignore football quality (true to an extent), remember that the underlying force to that money is still football. You can only ignore that base so long.Originally posted by Ted Nugent View PostI am still very hopeful that the Big 12 will survive...

If I'm one of these Big 12 leftovers, I'd be acting quickly to make this happen. You want these news stories on "the Death of the Big 12" to turn into the birth of the new Big 12, if you want any hope of being relevant when the dust settles. Hanging on to the Big 12 name is much better than letting your conference die and joining the Mountain West.At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Agreed about it being a fun conference, but I just don't see the Big 12 leftovers choosing the MWC over the Big East if the Big10 expands further. Hopefully things will stop at Big10+1 and Pac10+6. I also don't see the MWC dropping any teams, so best case is that the cream of the MWC jump ship and join the Big12 leftovers in a new conference.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostI'm not sure if you're joking here, but this ain't a bad football conference, and there are enough school with recent big success that they really can't be ignored by the BCS/playoff/whatever comes out of this without looking like they're shamelessly chasing money and ignoring football. I hate to get all lawyer-like with you but the Big 12 can't survive as a conference unless the members have 6 teams that have played together in the same conference for 5 years. You've only got 5 teams in your scenario. If I'm wrong someone tell me. I do not know if exceptions can be requested.Originally posted by Ted Nugent View PostI am still very hopeful that the Big 12 will survive...

You are not wrong as far as I can tell from what I have read. Of course if they act quickly and lawyer up I'm sure they could secure an exemption. To me, the east / west division should look something like this:Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI hate to get all lawyer-like with you but the Big 12 can't survive as a conference unless the members have 6 teams that have played together in the same conference for 5 years.
