    • Some more,

A source close to the Nebraska program told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that athletic director Tom Osborne informed staff members within the past 24 hours that the Cornhuskers were going to make the move to the Big Ten conference.

      • Also Jeff Caplan (ESPN) said UT, A&M, and TT have already met to determine direction and pledge solidarity to each other. Baylor was not present.

CU Meeting last night WAS about the PAC 10. All teams are ready to jump except UT and A&M. They are going to meet again tomorrow.

        • UT and A&M may try to hold together again, but if they do, there will be a vote to kick out Missouri.

Kick Mizzou out of the Big 12? I dont' get it.

Mizzou was the first to start all defecting to the Big Ten talk. Now, ironically, it seems they are all dressed up with no where to go. So maybe the Big 12 is thinking that they will just downsize back to ten teams so they don't have to invite BYU or AF by kicking out the Mizzou basterds.

On the surface, I always agreed with you. I'm not sure sure now.

I don't know what Texas's price would be (and let's face it, that is all this is about), but you gotta think that with USC, Texas, and Oklahoma, and the corresponding California/Texas television footprint, the PAC-10 could put together a television network that makes $320M per year. That kind of profit would give Texas an extra $20M per year in television revenue.

I guess, the question becomes: what are they making now with their television deal? Would $20M/year exceed that?

Whatever that number is, the PAC-10 obviously believes that they can hit it, otherwise they wouldn't be pursuing this.

                  Peanuts for Texas.

As part of their overall budget, sure, but what is their current TV contract getting them? Fewer peanuts? More peanuts is better.

Does the tv money go straight to the athletic dept. budget, or is it absorbed into the general school coffers?

I know your "peanuts" comment is based on Texas' endowment, but what sort of access does the athletics dept. have to that endowment? Probably not enough that they can simply say "we'd like another $20M a year please."

                      • Right now the Big 12 gets 60 million per year from ABC and 10 million per year from FSN. The teams can also earn money from ppv. The money is not distributed evenly. It's distributed based on television exposure. So Texas is undoubtedly coming out ahead of the other schools. Still, it's clearly not pulling 20 million per year. But then nobody's currently pulling that kind of money.

SEC is close at $18.5M per school. Their new TV contract, along with the BTN is what has everyone scrambling.

Colorado appears gone regardless of the Texas schools. If they want to stay at 10, they don't kick out Missouri.

                            • If Utah wants to go to the Pac-whatever, I guess there is still hope that Texas will opt out and stay in the Big 12. After getting the whole country all worked up they could just say "never mind." That is a possibility.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

The bozos doing the David Locke show today said it's Nebraska to the Big Ten, Colorado and Utah to the Pac 10, and BYU and AFA to the Big 12.
