Take Utah, BYU and TCU and join remaining little 6 and have an agreement (for football and men's bball only so small sports are hurt) to play the champ of the remaining ACC/Big east teams after they get raided by SEC and BigX. If Mizzou leaves replace them with boise st or Unlv. If Nebraska leaves replace them with Boise St or Unlv.

So in this scenario it plays out like this. 2011 Leftover 16 looks like this.

    Big 9 division
    Neb
    Mizzou
    Iowa st
    Kansas
    Kansas st
    Baylor
    Utah
    BYU
    TCU

    ACC
    BC
    VA Tech
    Virginia
    UNC
    Duke
    NCST
    Wake
    Clemson
UCONN/GA Tech/Louisville/Cincy/Pitt/Maryland who ever is not picked up by the big 10 or the SEC
    Come on, be realistic.

There are no ideas on utefans.

Round-robin 9 game schedule started in 2006 when the NCAA added a 12th game. In 2002 WSU didn't have to play 8 win Oregon State. 2000 Oregon State avoided 6-5 ASU, whom I believe they would have destroyed.

I agree with the unbalanced schedule being a problem also.

                Wilner weighs in.

Pac-10 expansion: Thoughts on the timing and the rumors

I think Wilner has been the most reasonable on this issue over the past months, sourcing all his reporting back to Scott. Given the events of the last 24 hours, I think we can put that "Utah to the PAC 10 is a done deal" rumor to bed. Utah may well still end up there, but it's fairly obvious that there are a lot of other schools that will need to turn down the invitation before it is even considered. And even then, some interesting math will need to be done to make it worth it.
                Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Texas and its idiot cousins should just go to the SEC. That's the natural fit. I don't understand why that doesn't give Texas everything, including maintaining the cultural aspect of league affiliation.

I heard this morning that the Texas coach and coach in waiting think the SEC schools cheat. They have a low opinion of ethics in the SEC. I suspect they also feel they would have a hard time dominating that league.

One other tidbit I heard that surprised me. Only two schools in the SEC would meet the PAC10 criteria for "research" schools. Florida and Vanderbilt.

                        According to Espn

The official moves have yet to be made, but the Pac-10 is remaining open minded in their approach to expansion. One option still being considered: A full merger between the Big 12 and Pac-10 that would blow yesterday's news away but still raise plenty of questions while making teams like Iowa State, Baylor and Kansas feel a little more secure.

"There is an enormous amount of speculation about conference expansion right now and I think with the Pac-10 that anything is possible, all the way from remaining with the status quo, where we are today, to a full merger with the Big 12 and anything in between,'' Washington athletic director Scott Woodward told the Seattle Times on Thursday. "All possibilities are viable and open for discussion.''

A reminder: None of this would be anything the Big 12 brass are discussing -- or possibly even aware of -- this week in Kansas City, but the Pac-10 is making it clear they won't be happy with handing over the first move of conference realignment to the Big Ten.

And after yesterday's talk -- or lack thereof -- it's hard to be surprised by anything in relation to the Big 12's future.

Dang, linked blocked at work. On Utah, they would be a much more attractive option than TTech. I can only imagine Utah is better not only athletically but also academically. TTech is really the red-headed step child of Texas, but that might also be skewed by the fact aTm and UT fans hate TTech fans (and they have good reason to hate them).

Those would be some pretty good basketball conferences. Is there any way we can raid the SEC for Kentucky? That way Kentucky can beat up on Utah every year rather than every 5-10 years in the tournament. I installed alarms in Kentucky for a summer. My buddy was from Utah. Anytime he told someone over there he was from Utah they would start laughing and tell him they're sorry.

Ouch. That really hurts, especially coming from a BYU fan, what with the Y's stellar record against Kentucky - not to mention the Cougars' many deep runs into the NCAA tournament where they too have been disappointed by teams like Kentucky in national championship games.

                              No, wait ....

Hey, how many schools do you know that even get to the NCAA's that have honor and integrity as their priority over winning.

Of course we don't go deep into the tournament. We take the Bronco approach when it comes to competition and we are better because of it.
