It's a no brainer. It crushes what they could get anywhere else barring a surprise SEC invite, and it gets you into the B1G where you have to think that eventually you'd be able to demand an even share. And even if that even share is more than a decade away, it still puts you on the life raft if/when CFB becomes a power 2. It's such a no brainer that if it had been offered, it would already have happened.

Yeah, I agree but I don't see CFB becoming only a power 2, but more like a power 2.5. I see with the new 12 team playoff, however, that the SEC and B1G will occupy 8-9 of the slots with 3-4 ACC and/or Big 12 teams in the remaining slots ever year. The G5 teams (including the Pac 12 leftovers) will be looking in from the outside and might as well just be in another division so they can have their own national championship. Man, it is going to suck for Utah.Originally posted by SteelBlue View Post

This thread is really funny. There really are no good expansion options for the P12, in spite of these earnest responses.

I think that guy is a troll account. Certainly not our DSU."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Why would they wait for the PAC to fold? Jump on that train already!Last edited by myboynoah; 03-05-2023, 03:10 PM.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

I think there are a few Utah fans on twitter who have just gone full out troll. The Utah Pig Bus account is certainly a troll account now. I wouldn't be surprised if the one above is as well. I think they are leaning into it now that a good portion of their fan base has already annoyed Big-XII fan bases.
I get some KSL podcasts that show up in my Google feed. One segment was entitled something along the lines of "if Utah goes to the Big-XII, are they immediately the best team?" So i listened and the answer was of course yes.

Yes lots of tweets about how Utah would clearly win Big 12 championships if they came into the conference. Utah is a good program and maybe they would challenge for the title right away. But I don't know where the confidence or point of comparison comes from when they can't beat Power 5 teams out of conference right now.Originally posted by USUC View PostI think there are a few Utah fans on twitter who have just gone full out troll. I think most of the stuff from the PigBus dude is genuine. If he is trying to be a troll, he is terrible at it.Originally posted by USUC View PostI think there are a few Utah fans on twitter who have just gone full out troll. Yeah, I think you are correct. They are having some fun, and some of the hyperbole is pretty funny.
But looking at some uofutah message boards reveals a whole new level of weirdness. I don't think those folks are trolling at all.

Yeesh. That is hilarious. The importance of Pac-12 affiliation by their fan base has broken them. It's certainly true that Utah has a lot of success within the Pac-12. They have been in 4 of the last five championship games. They've won it twice. Good for them. But being conference champ and finishing the season with 4 losses is an indication that no one in the conference was especially good. OOC results back this up.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostYeah, I think you are correct. They are having some fun, and some of the hyperbole is pretty funny.

Whittingham has built a fine program. He knows how to dominate BYU and undercut them at any chance. He won't be there forever.

It depends on the day/issue. In the comments, he’ll usually admit when he’s being a troll.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

On B12, he’s definitely trolling with truck driver and flyover state smack.

I have been wondering where Cowturd got this $65m/yr/team number and I think I have figured it out... The B1G media contract does not increase pro rata if they add schools. As of right now with the 16 schools (which includes UCLA/USC) each school will get about $75m per year (not including post season; e.g. playoffs). Adding Oregon and UW this would reduce the pie slice down to roughly $65m/year/school. What Cowherd is saying about the B1G only wanting to give 50% payouts to Oregon/UW makes sense. The B1G schools don't want to take a $10m/year haircut to add them but could maybe live with $5m less, however.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Post
Oregon and UW would be dumb to jump for $50,000/yr each. LOL
My bad... Cowherd says it is $65m annual (not $60m) around the 7:30 mark. The figure I keep seeing is around $80m/yr/team. So maybe Cowherd's figure doesn't include tier 2 which is maybe another $15m/yr for each team (a lot more than the Pac 12's $3m/yr/team).
Cowherd seems to be in the know... He announced something major was going to be announced from USC before the B1G conference jump announcement. Maybe it's because he works for FoxSports and they help pay the B1G bills so he hears stuff around the water cooler. He is most likely more connected than even @MHver3.
The Big 12 contract, on the other hand, has a pro rata clause in the contract (at least with ESPN) if they add P5 schools. So If the Big 12 adds Arizona and Colorado, for example, then the Big 12 media partners would increase their money they pay so each school gets about $32m each."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
