As a fan of the Big12, the list of defections is gut wrenching. Before conference realignment began, if I would have ranked the schools in the Big12 in order of past achievement and potential it would have been as follows:
Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Missouri, Colorado, Kansas St., Oklahoma St., Texas Tech, Iowa St., Baylor, and Kansas. So the top half of the Big 12 is gone, yet the Big12 survives.
The PAC-12 just lost arguably their top two programs. And there is debate about expanding and adding San Diego St.??? in addition to adding SDSU immediately, Kliavkoff should be in conversations with BYU about getting out of the Cougars deal with the Big12 and join the PAC-12 instead (TCU managed something similar when it joined the Big12).
