The Pac 12 could step in and pick off Kansas and Baylor or whomever today.

On the other hand, it's clear the Big 12 would love to have at least 8 of the Pac 12 and they've been told get thee hence.

BYU would never be invited to the Pac 12 so your ultimate point is superfluous.

No they couldn't. No way in hell would either bolt for P12. Kansas is a basketball school, and even with UT an OU gone, B12 has become premiere in hoops. No way would Baylor (a small school, relatively), head to the P12 for less money and more expenses.

With all that said, I don't think BYU fans should be dancing on the grave of the P12 or hoping for Utah to the MWC. If Utah gets left out of the big dance, then BYU will in all likelihood be left out as well.

The Pac 12 leadership is saying what the P12 leadership has to say: "We're united. We can survive. We're looking to expand." Because the alternative is the death knell.

I suppose that’s good advice for a lot of folks. I don’t see Utah to B10. Between: P12 staying viable, Utah to B10, and Utah to B12, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say the latter is more probable that the prior two.

I think it's already basically 100% certain that BYU and Utah are going to be left out of the highest tier of college football. So are a lot of solid programs. The only thing that remains, will BYU and Utah be on the high end of the next tier of the college football totem pole, or will it just be BYU and Utah dropping to the MWC level of the totem pole.

Utah should have a go as an independent for a few years. Goodness knows the move would be successful. The utes tv presence is astronomical and they are something like the 79th highest-rated international university according to US News and World Report.
