Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your contribution to the post count. This thread was hanging by a nail.

      • Jarid and others keep trying to steer the conversation back to the football game less than 24 hours away and CH just doesn't get the hint. This clown is giving himself a public colonoscopy and he just doesn't get that no one wants to watch. For the reocrd, I'm very intrigued by tomorrow night's game.

BoobyHater was getting worried about post count. I don't trust anyone that hates boobies.
          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

          • So anyway, back to football. This is going to be very interesting: Utah, playing in a great historic West Coast conference with a chance to show its stuff on a national stage; and BYU, roaming the country with several great, big-time opponents every year, also with a chance to show its stuff on a national stage; and (one hopes) an annual rivalry game to boot. The two schools, tied together by history, tradition, and culture, but with vastly different missions, now can try to fulfil those missions in very different ways.

I think the real winners after this summer are college football fans who pay attention to one or both of these teams.

Am I right? Can I get an "amen?"

I will say this, it's gotta be the reason your puppy dog is sporting a red rocket, right?

In seriousness, while I would have rather the cougars joined you in the PAC10, it is certainly exciting to be a fan of either team. With Utah being a partner to continue the rivalry, that is a built in BCS opponent that the Cougars didn't have prior. Add in ND, Texas, Oregon State, and others and I believe the Cougs home schedule will look good year in and year out.

With the Utes, I would figure after BYU, you are not going to be scheduling too many quality opponents when you factor in the 9 game conference schedule, but having Oregon, Oregon st, Washington in every other year, and USC, UCLA and Cal every 4th year, I am pretty sure I am buying season tickets just to have them available to me.

In short, yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Clause.

                  • It seems the Big 12 is tired of Colorado stinking up the conference... Colorado expected to join Pac-10 in 2011:

The 10 remaining Big 12 schools just completed voting on four football schedules for 2011 based on a 10-team league and four schedules based on an 11-team league.

The results are in and will be announced next week when Big 12 administrators gather in Dallas on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 28 and 29.

But it's looking more and more like it will be a 10-team league in 2011 because Colorado will move on to the Pac-10 after this school year, several sources said.
                    Happy Birthday SU!

Edit: As predicted ( http://www.cougaruteforum.com/showpo...6&postcount=81 ) it looks to be pay-over-time deal:

At issue is the money. Colorado doesn't think it can remain financially viable if it has to pay the one-year notifcation departure fee, which is an 80 percent forfeiture of revenues over a two-year period. But sources said the Big 12 is working on a payment schedule for Colorado to pay those fees over time to the Big 12.

Looks like Nebraska has agreed to terms. They're forfeiting almost $10 million they'd receive this year. They get $500k if they make a BCS game.

Nebraska was talking tough and said they shouldn't forfeit anything because the Big 12 wasn't affected negatively by their departure. I guess they lost.

This also means that there is no way that CU will be let out of their penalty.

Are you all anticipating a rivalry or hoping for another? It seems the rivalries are set in the PAC already but maybe Utah can shake things up.

To maintain balance in the Pac-12 universe doesn't that require the Utes to sink?

I predict that the Utes can count on at least one conference win next year.

I hope they will be as good as BYU since they are supposed to be our new in-conference rival. (Hey, BYU's rise did not cause us to sink. Rising tides are good things.)

                              • CU will pay $6.83 million to join the PAC-12 in 2011.

I'm very happy to hear this. This is noticeably lower than the original exit fee required by the Big 12.
