Me too. He's a beast.Originally posted by Surfah View PostFaried is a monster around the rim. He gets every rebound and if he's within 5' of the rim he's throwing it down. That game was a lot of fun, I took one of my daughters and she really enjoyed herself, as well.
It was really neat seeing all those names playing in BYUs gym.
Kemba received a lot of love from the crowd. kawhi did too but not as much.
At halftime, they brought out the BYU basketball team to thank them for last season. Crowd really liked that. Was good to see them down there.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

The game got some Sportscenter coverage -- made me wish I would have gone down to the game but 2 nights in a row driving down to Provo isn't easy.
Two of the Top Ten plays were from the game - a deep Jimmer 3 and a Faried dunk and they showed a Faried block too.
Sounds like Jimmer and his team had a bad stretch but turned it around to at least make it respectable. 9/20 shooting isn't bad.

That was an awesome night. I sat right next to the Octagon sports guys (Jimmers agents) and asked them if this was a one time thing due to the lockout. They said they were hoping they can do it again next year. However when the lockout ends they doubt they will get as many players to commit. Each player was given a $10,000 appearance fee. The game made about $400,000. After facility rentals, appearance fees, accomodations, etc. Jimmer was able to clear about $150,000 for his charity which is pretty cool.
Also next year they might do it earlier in the summer and try and go with a team of former BYU all-stars (Plaisted, Cummard, Jimmer, Emery, Shawn Bradley, etc.) against NBA rookies.
Regarding the game it is hard to tell a ton from an exhibition but, I was surprised early at how easily Jimmer was able to get to the rim and score over guys like Biyombo and Macklin. I was also shocked at how hard these guys were playing, Dave Rose actually came out in a zone at one point to try and slow down the other team. Jimmer was fouling to extend the game late.
A few thoughts on individual players:
Jimmer- looks even more cut up than he did during the season last year, his skill set has not changed at all can still drain it from deep, splits the double team as good as anyone and can finish at the rim. He is susceptible to getting his shot blocked.
Kemba- he seemed to the only guy going about 3/4 speed but when he turned it on I was blown away by his quickness. It is one thing to see it on TV but in person it is unreal.
Tobias Harris- by far in my opinion the most impressive player. He has great size, is thick, can handle the ball in the open floor, has good range and really impressed me. However he also clearly took it the most serious.
Faried- scrappy and going to be a Dejuan Blair type hustle player in the NBA, has zero back to the basket game and all of his points will come from cleaning up the glass.
Biyombo- long, tall, good shot blocker but terrible offensively, I could not believe how raw this guy looked even in an exhibition game.
Nolan Smith- His outside shot did not look great but he has good quickness and does a nice job finishing at the rim.
Tyler Honeycutt- looks like Drake, does a nice job of finishing on one end of an alley oop.
Malcom Lee- see tyler honeycutt minus the Drake part.
Isaiah Thomas- crowd pleaser can really get up for only being 5'8 had some sweet dunks and has a decent outside stroke.
Vernon Macklin- he is huge.
Chris Singleton- treated it like an exhibition bombing threes the whole time, terrible outside stroke. But solid shot blocker and defender.
Like I said this is based off of one game where quite a few guys were trying to expand their skill set so to speak. But overall it was a fun night and I had some good friendly banter going back and forth with Isiah Thomas. He got mad because I kept referring to him as "Jimmers backup".*Banned*
