  • To make the trade, the Jazz also had to part with two picks.

One, acquired from Memphis in a February trade that Ronnie Brewer to the Grizzlies, is lottery-protected next season and has protection extending to No. 9 in 2015 before a $3 million cash payment must be conveyed.

The other, Utah's own, is at least top-10 protected for the next three years.

From the Deseret News... at least it is top-10 protected for the next three years. So if we're going to be bad next year, we need to be bad enough that we're in the top 10.

If we draft Biyombo, I'd hope we keep him over in Europe for a year or 2. We're not ready for him and he's not ready for us. If it takes a year or 2, he develops on their dime and when he finally comes over, we still have him for 4 years on the rookie scale...whatever that turns out to be.

But stashing your #6 pick over seas for a couple years doesn't seem like the best use of a high pick. If we end up keeping both picks, one of them probably should be one of the euro's to do what I just described (Jonas, Kanter, Biyombo) I just don't think its useful to have 2 rookies from last year, 2 rookies from this year, and another next year. And that doesn't even count Evans and any other 2nd round picks. I'd like to give Evans another year to see if he improves.

So, right now I'm thinking Knight, then pick up one of the euros mentioned above at #12. But more likely, we use both picks to move up from 6 when we don't win the lottery. Or use the #12 pick in another trade.

I wouldn't be heartbroken if the 6th pick ended up in Europe for at least one more year for a couple of reasons. 1) They might be bringing in a Top 5 pick this year anyway if Tomic joins the team, 2) With Barnes, Jones, and Sullinger all staying in school the prospect the Jazz draft there will be more like a guy taken several picks later.

I would like the pick of Knight if he fell to 6.

Your opinion of Tomic must be much higher than mine. I find it hard to get that excited about a guy averaging less than 10 points and barely 5 rebounds a game in Europe right now, especially given that he is seeing decent minutes.

I don't know what my opinion of him really is yet, but I referenced him just to say that if we drafted a Euro that was stashed for a couple of years it wouldn't be as big of a deal because we're bringing one over that has already stayed over there a while. It would cushion the blow of having a high lottery pick not join your team immediately.

            • I'm not going to overanalyze this draft for the Jazz and my opinion may change before draft time, but for now, after watching Biyombo, I'd just fine with an all defense/all offense draft. Biyombo at 6 and Fredette at 12.

That said, I wonder what I'd think of Jimmer if he weren't a BYU guy. I have a feeling I'd either love him as a prospect or hate him. I don't think there would be much middle ground.

I'm fairly convinced that Jimmer would be exactly the kind of guy everyone around Cougar message board land would hate as a prospect if he weren't one of us. Players in his position (known collegiate commodities, white with questions about marignal athleticism) have been roasted far too often in recent drafts for me to believe otherwise.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

You're probably right, but I loved Morrison coming into the draft.

                  I also liked Quincy Douby.

                  Apparently I like scorers.

I definitely remember how much you loved both of those guys. The other guy I always think of is gerald green.

                    • Some comments from AK's interview with Kirkland.

Said he might play in Russia if there's a lockout - duh!

Thinks he has about 4 years of good ball left. He says, the way he plays has cost him his health, but you play 100% or there's no point.

Says being 6'10" and guarding guys like Kobe Bryant has added to his injuries.

Says he'd give the Jazz a home team discount - and money won't be his biggest concern. But, he wants to see what's out there, but the Jazz have the advantage.

Says he would rather win a title with the Jazz - than with the Lakers or Spurs. Said, it wouldn't be the same feeling.

Said, he can see Jimmer making it in the NBA, said he misses Kyle Korver and he can see Jimmer filling that kind of role.

Says coach Sloan and Ty Corbin are of different mindsets, says Coach Sloan puts you in a position that makes you nervous. He was very diplomatic about how he said it, but basically said he didn't think Gordon Hayward would have developed the way he did this season under Sloan.

Said we have yet to see Gordon Hayward's best game. Said, in the 22 and 34 point games, Gordon played "well", but not his best.

Regarding the Bulls game locker room half time incident - he said"To be honest, I've seen way worse moments in the locker room. It wasn't really like something crazy. I just think at that point Coach Sloan was like that's enough. I don't want to deal with this.. and I don't wanna be, because it's always so intense when you are dealing with the players. It's like a big family, and you are dealing with a kid. He just got tired of dealing with this situation again, again, again. At this moment he said enough is enough. I'm going to be on Deron's side here, I don't think he was out of it. Coach Sloan was a great example, just a guy to be tough, tough, tough, but at some point you should really break. I feel a little bad for Deron because he is kind of scapegoat in this situation."

Damn you for bringing that up too. Don't make me cite all those times (read: both) i've been right, gosh darnit!

                          • Knight, Jones, and Liggins all declare for the draft, but none have hired an agent yet.

I think Knight and Jones are in the draft for sure. Knight is looking at the Top 5, Jones with a solid shot at being Top 10, and Kentucky is bringing in elite recruits at their respective positions so coming back likely wouldn't boost their stock much for the much deeper 2012 draft.

                            • Chad Ford hates Jimmer!
OK, maybe not. But he's no longer saying the Jazz pick Jimmer at 12. Instead, the Jazz pick Tristan Thompson.

I don't get it. A 6-8 PF who didn't impress as a freshman at Texas. Why would the Jazz want him? Ford has him ranked 13. DrafExpress has him at 16. Last think the Jazz need is an undersized PF who is a project. I'd rather have Jimmer. But right now, I'm hoping for Alec Burks.

He also has the Jazz picking Walker over Knight. I don't like that either.

I think the bigger reason they aren't picking Jimmer at 12 is because of what they did at 6. Having said that, I would still probably prefer Jordan Hamilton to Tristan Thompson. Running it where the Jazz land #2 with the #12 pick, they come away with Derrick Williams and Brandon Knight. Although maybe they really aren't Jimmer fans. Pick #3 they take Kanter and pick #12 they take Thompson with Jimmer still on the board. That makes less sense IMO.
